Lavon Miller And Firepunk Diesel Break Pro Street 1/8-Mile Record

Over the weekend the Outlaw Diesel Super Series promised us a day full of the best diesel drag racing possible and they did not disappoint. The Rocky Top Diesel Shootout took place in Crossville, Tennessee with the top drivers from all around the country there to compete.

One driver, in particular, was Lavon Miller, owner of Firepunk Diesel. Lavon recently ran a new personal best 1/4-mile time of a 7.993 at 174.8 mph in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Keep in mind, this truck weighed 4,930 pounds at the time.

Pro Street class offers a 4,500-pound minimum weight and Firepunk, doing what they do best, innovated new ways, new parts, and new ideas to get this thing to the top once again. Crossville was in for a treat when Lavon laid down a 5.11 at 144 mph to the 1/8-mile. That pass would better the new record set the day before by Dustin Jackson with a 5.15 at 135 mph.

“After changing into a more light weight axle setup we weighed in at 4,390 pounds,” Miller said. “We added weight behind the axle to make the 4,500-pound limit and ended up with a 4,543-pound race weight. We ran 143.8 mph on the same tune up at 4,930 pounds which calculated to 2,278 horsepower to the ground.”

That means all of the horsepower isn’t just dyno power, it’s getting used. The record setting pass was badass to watch and seeing the team’s excitement us the chills. Although the record setting pass was great, they popped the head gasket about 50 feet from the finish line, which only means there is more in the tank.

The chassis of the truck is only certified for 5.00 1/8-mile and 7.99 1/4-mile times. With that being said, if they keep it up they will be doing more chassis certifications to stay legal for the class.

Will they bury the truck into the four-second range? With Scheid Diesel Extravaganza coming up, we will be there to find out!
