Nitrous, that’s something just for the Fast and the Furious crowd, right? Not the case – did you know that nitrous is one of the most common chemical power adders in the diesel racing industry. We heard rumor there was a new nitrous kit option available and reached out to Ny-Trex to find out a little more about it firsthand.
Ny-Trex, a nitrous oxide company founded in 2003, offers a complete line of nitrous kits and components utilizing 21st century technology and was acquired by now parent company, Design Engineering, Inc. back in November 2008. Design Engineering Inc. (DEI) was formed in 1995 and is a major U.S. manufacturer and supplier of high performance automotive aftermarket products. Located in Avon Lake, OH, DEI specializes in the development of thermal tuning and acoustic products.
Specifically designed for diesels, the new Ny-Trex Big-Diesel kit comes with all of the hardware needed to install and run the kit right out of the box. What makes it unique is the lifetime no-hassle warranty on the solenoids, and the CryO2 aspect of the kit.
Normally when you are about to spray, you purge the line, making sure that all of the gas is out and the liquid is ready to go. Ny-Trex realized that the action of purging the lines into the atmosphere represents a lost opportunity. Their CryO2 aspect of the kit uses what they have learned from making CryO2 kits for years and applies it to their nitrous setups. The kit includes the intercooler spray bar that goes right in front of the intercooler and now, when you purge your system, you are actually cooling the intercooler, helping to reduce the heat soak.
Their 1/8-inch nozzles flow enough to add an extra 300 horsepower (if you have the fuel). We sat down with one of their racers to get the inside scoop. Rob Coddens (aka Idaho Rob) shared, “The N2O system worked beautifully and without any problems, race season started off in March in Phoenix, AZ with a 1st place finish in NHRDA Super Street class and also setting a new World Record for ET and MPH, looking forward to some more action this coming year.”
Stay tuned for more on “Idaho Rob” and his racing season highlights.
