One Size Does Not Fit All…When It Comes To Recovery Straps

Recovery StrapsWe have all been there, stuck in the mud, trapped in a ditch, etc., when we needed a helping hand to break free. For us, it was getting stuck on some private property we had been “checking out” when looking for a new house while it was raining. Two days later, many tow straps, ratchets, come-alongs and a few overheated winches, we finally had to admit defeat (especially when the property owner threatened to call the cops) and ask some buddies to try to back down and help drag us out. Oh, and did I mention no tow truck would come get us either! Anyways, after breaking another group of straps and cables, it sure would have been nice to have some options like these we came across recently to help us out. Obviously, this experience taught us a variety of lessons, but probably the most important one is that all tow/recovery straps were not created equal. Check out the official release below from Mac’s to see what’s they’ve got working.

Official Company Press Release:

TreeSagle, Idaho – When your vehicle is stuck, having proper recovery straps is a must. Unfortunately, one size does not fit all and that’s why Mac’s Tie Downs is excited to offer a variety of recovery strap options to meet the needs of vehicles all shapes and sizes. Like all of Mac’s products, the Recovery Straps are made in America using the highest quality design, materials and workmanship.

“Our Mac’s straps are tested and used in a variety of situations, including towing a 36,000lb concrete truck up a steep graded hill at a recent off road challenge,” said Colin McLemore, President of Mac’s Tie Downs. “Our straps have definitely been put to the test and I’m confident they can handle anything thrown at them.”

The Mac’s Recovery Straps are made of nylon so that they can stretch and store extra kinetic energy, making it easier to get a vehicle unstuck. The straps come in four standard widths of webbing including a 2-inch (17,000lb breaking strength), 3-inch (27,000lb breaking strength), 4-inch (37,000lb breaking strength) and 6-inch (57,000lb breaking strength). The straps, available in yellow, come in two different lengths, 20 feet and 30 feet, and custom lengths can be created for different applications.

To determine what width of straps is needed, multiply the weight of your vehicle by 5 and chose the strap with the strength rating closest to that number. Of course, when in doubt, contact Mac’s directly for a walk through on choosing straps.
