The Wildest Truck Mod You Just Might Overlook

Autogroup International (AGI) specializes in converting America’s burliest trucks, SUVs, and muscle cars from left-hand drive to right-hand drive. We’ve seen a lot over the years, but this is one of the more subtly shocking undertakings we’ve ever come across. We nerd out just imagining crossing paths with a completely factory-looking right-hand-drive Duramax-powered 2025 GMC Sierra 2500HD AT4X AEV Edition at an unsuspecting stoplight. The aforementioned is just an example, as Autogroup International converts all of our favorite diesel trucks to right-hand drive. Call us crazy, but we think something like this would definitely draw some attention at a place like the Sema Show. Throw a company’s product on a right-hand-drive Super Duty, and you’ve won Sema. You’re welcome.

So how does the company manage to attain a polished factory-OEM interior appearance and proper mechanical functioning in its left- to right-hand drive conversion process? The more we dig in to the process—which you can easily learn more about since the company has a strong social media presence—the more our minds are blown. Put simply, it’s a huge undertaking, which is probably why there are not many companies like Autogroup International taking on these conversions.

It’s not a matter of transferring parts from one side of the vehicle to the other, which would create some really strange geometry and angles. It doesn’t work, obviously. Rather, Autogroup International creates an interior that is a mirror image of the other side, meaning the parts are wholly different. When you think of it, many portions of the vehicle are impacted: HVAC system, dashboard, interior plastics, interior layout, interior system controls, center console, steering system, and so on.

After disassembling a vehicle, Autogroup International 3D-scans the impacted components, redesigns them using computer software, and then manufactures them in a material that replicates the original’s properties. Autogroup has over 30 engineers, 100 production members, and 20 production bays to simultaneously convert up to 20 vehicles. Most conversions take three to ten weeks to complete, and AGI does all of the work in-house. Through tons of research and engineering, the resulting interiors look like they were right-hand-drive straight from the factory—with a speedometer in km/h.

The final products meet strict ISO 9001 quality standards, are fully ADR (Australian Design Rules) compliant, homologated, and backed by a three-year conversion warranty. Customers can source their own vehicles, or Autogroup offers a turnkey solution where it will source, ship, convert, and deliver. AGI doesn’t talk much about price, but as it’s a pretty labor intensive endeavor, expect to pay.

Autogroup International has been perfecting its craft of right-hand-drive conversions for over 30 years, converting over 4,500 vehicles (55 different models) and exporting them to over 40 countries worldwide. AGI’s founder, Peter Hill, converted a 1993 GMC Sierra in 1993, birthing the Australian-rooted family-own business that’s headquartered in Sri Lanka. Today, Peter Hill’s son, Rob Hill, serves as the Chief Executive Officer and Co-Chairman. If this has activated the curious nerd within, check out the company’s website for the full scoop.
