Have you ever been stranded on the side of the road? When being involved in this hobby or a driving a big rig for a living its almost inevitable that it may happen one day. Whether it be due to engine trouble, a tire blowing out, and/or something else, if you’ve been in this hobby long enough it will happen. At the time you may feel pissed, you may throw things in rage while you curse and scream in frustration. Despite being pissed at the time, a few years later your roadside struggles make a great story over a beer or during a break at the water cooler. In our new series, Roadside Stories we bring you some of the best, craziest, zaniest or most embarrassing roadside incidents told by you.
Our inaugural Roadside Story comes from user Kona1987 from the Cummings Forum. He was leaving Pittsburgh after a visit with his Fiance to head back to Elysburg, PA. He was cruising in his 2002 Dakota which he recently installed XD Spy Wheels which didn’t fit his bolt pattern. They were held on by an adapter kit. While cruising on I-80 he noticed that his front driver side wheel was loose. He got out, tighten the lug nuts with his tool kit and went on his merry way. About one hour from home he hears a loud BOOM! He sees his front drivers tire fly off, bounce and SMAAACK! The tire bounced up and hit his driver side window. He quickly regained control of the truck and pulled over on the side of the road.
Kona1987 had this to say, “Thank the LORD that no one or other vehicles were injured during this stupidity. Needless to say, I would NEVER buy or recommend anyone try out wheel adapters. Lesson learned!”
Let that be a lesson to you boys, always buy wheels that are a perfect fit. If you have any Roadside stories that you would like to share contact us or leave them in the comments below and we may just feature them in a future article.
