SAYONARA: GMC Canyon, Chevrolet Colorado Diesel’s To End In 2022

For all of you who like the small diesel trucks that our friends over at GM offer, you better get one while you can. Per GM Authority, the production of GMC’s Canyon and Chevrolet’s Colorado’s that come with a diesel engine is coming to an end. Production is scheduled to end in Q3 of this year, 2022. What does that mean for these trucks?

If you’re a fan of the truck, they aren’t going anywhere. General Motors is making the necessary preparations for the production of the next generation of the GMC Canyon and Chevrolet Colorado for 2023. Unfortunately, for the diesel lovers out there, these new models will come equipped with their turbocharger 2.7-liter, inline-four gasoline engines, and a 10-speed automatic transmission as the exclusive option.

The turbocharged gasoline engine is rated for 310-horsepower and an impressive torque rating of 430-lb/ft. When compared to the diesel before it, it ranks up there with it. The turbocharged 2.8-liter inline-four Duramax engine was rated at 181-horsepower and 369-lb/ft of torque. When you think of diesel, you think of torque.

These gas engines have come so far though, they’re up there competing in this space. Production at the GM Wentzville Assembly plant in Missouri is up and going and getting ready to pump out these trucks to consumers. The next-generation trucks will ride on revised

Per GM Authority, “Both next-generation pickups will ride on a heavily revised version of the current models’ 31XX platform. Both vehicles will also adopt the GM Global B electrical architecture for the latest tech features. On the GMC side, the next-gen Canyon will also introduce the first-ever Canyon AT4X, a more-capable off-roader that will serve as GMC’s variant of the Chevy Colorado ZR2.”

Did you get your truck in time? Are you going still searching? Let us know in the comments below. What will they come out with next? Will we ever see a diesel in one of these trucks again? Time will tell.
