Our friends over at S&S Diesel Motorsport has recognized the issues with the LML Duramax engine including the Cp4.2 high-pressure injection pumps failures you’ve probably heard about. The S&S solution is to remove the problem before it becomes a bigger problem by replacing the CP4.2 with a tried and true, bulletproof CP3 high-pressure fuel pump.
CP4 high-pressure pumps are the obvious weakness of these LML Duramax engines. They have a high failure rate and with that, they typically take out the entire high-pressure system with it. That includes fuel injectors, rails, and the lines which are very expensive. S&S offers the only CARB-compliant 50-state CP3 conversion kit available for the LML trucks. This kit includes all of the necessary hardware to replace that troublesome Cp4 and requires no tuning changes to swap.

Having a kit that can swap you from a known issue to a known working unit is one thing. To have a kit of this importance and comply with the CARB guidelines is a feat in itself. CARB guidelines are very strict in this day in age so props to the crew at S&S for getting this done.
S&S’s kit maintains factory emissions control equipment and comes at a MAP price of $2,500. They also offer two other versions of the LML CP3 conversion kits from competition trucks which do not require after-treatment. One tuning required version for $1,780.00 MAP, and one drop-in, no tuning required for $2,075.00.
