Every day, there are more and more products entering the market that claim to increase horsepower and torque. These products are fluffed by using buzzwords like chip, chipping, or flashing. These are all technologies of the past and are doing less than advertised. Products that increase rail pressure do provide additional horsepower and torque but at what cost?
If you’re looking for a quality product that has been tried, tested, and sold worldwide, then there is only one box you should depend on. STEINBAUER Performance. STEINBAUER has been producing performance electronics for over 20 years and putting all of their products through their paces. All of their products that are developed are rigorously tested and then manufactured in-house.
No other tuning on the market is as refined and proven as what you get with STEINBAUER PowerModule. “Our vision is to continue to inspire our customers with new ideas and provide them with quality and technically advanced products. This is why we went back to the drawing board to completely re-design the Power Stroke module,” said Company founder, Herbert Steinbauer.
“With innovation and continuous development, we have firmly secured our position as a leading international manufacturer of additional devices for engine optimization and additional electronics,” said Steinbauer. “We engineer products for many automotive brands across the ranges including passenger cars, agricultural machinery, heavy-duty equipment, forestry machinery, trucks, pickup trucks, boats, and motorhomes.”
With over twenty years of experience inside the aftermarket electronic industry, they have developed a thorough understanding of precision engine control and that results into a safe increase in power and torque on virtually anything with a diesel engine. STEINBAUER is the patent holder for Piezo Injector Duration tuning.
They started in the mid-90s with a clear focus on improving the performance of diesel engines., but wanted to avoid the pitfalls of their competitors’ products that were focused on invasive tuning methods such as chip-tuning, flashing, and pressure box technology. They made the decision to develop a higher end product that uses advanced programming based on the injection system with a convenient plug and play demeanor.
STEINBAUER modules, no matter the vehicle match, operate within the safety parameters set by the manufacturer, which means the safety codes are not overridden. No overwrite of the factory ECM is conducted. “We work in harmony and downstream from the ECM,” said Director of Engineering Hubert Eder. “All of the additional power applied to a truck is achieved with the precise injection of additional fuel only during the main injection and when the engine is under a load.”
As mentioned before, all PCB boards and wiring harnesses are manufactured in Austria and the products are assembled, programmed and packed in their United States office in Michigan upon customer order. Programming at the time of order ensures that the most updated version is loaded onto the product. “We don’t believe in holding pre-made stock. We have all components in Michigan and products are made to order and shipped the same day.” Said Steinbauer.

Other products, such as rail pressure tuners, tend to inject additional fuel through the pre, main and post-injection – something that is not ideal for the longevity of your engine life.
“Here at STEINBAUER, our software engineers develop embedded software for advanced microprocessors,” said Eder. “We do not use cheap mass produced or generic imported PCB boards or electric parts.”
With injection duration, you’re going to notice many changes about your truck. These changes include a 20-percent increase in horsepower and torque, with smooth power delivery and in many instances, depending on how you drive, improved fuel economy.
“We Back The Product We Sell”
“By using our own dedicated company base with sales and support force in Austria, Germany, England, and the United States, our team are at the forefront of contact with all our customers… this way we get the direct feedback that is imperative to delivering a product that fits the customers’ needs” said Eder. “As a brand that is local and global, the STEINBAUER sales professionals can take care of you from anywhere in the world.” STEINBAUER is a company that offers the best training and support to a field of world-class distributors.
When you make your STEINBAUER product purchase, you can sleep well at night knowing that your representative and every member of the team has supported the product all the from concept to production and lastly to delivery. “ We stand firmly behind our core value that there is no substitute for true quality and engineering design, backed by unparalleled customer service,” says Steinbauer
THE POWER MODULE INSTALL
Unlike other boxes on the market, the STEINBAUER Power Module can be installed in literally a few minutes. Fortunately for us, the crew over at STEINBAUER provided us with one to try out on a pickup here in the states. Like usual, we headed down to Creative Trim And Performance in Cape Girardeau, Missouri and met with the owner, Travis Rowland, about this new box.
“My 2015 F-250 truck is already tuned but to be honest, I am not happy with the performance of the truck as it sits,” said Rowland. “I am open to trying anything out as long as it’s going to improve over what I’ve got.” After speaking with the team at STEINBAUER, we were sure that this box would change Rowland’s 6.7-liter Power Stroke for the better.
The quality of the plugs received are unbelievably sturdy. They felt more secure and stronger than any plug and play unit we have ever tested.
Firstly, we got the box opened up to see what all comes inside. At a glance, we have the actual PowerModule itself, the new main harness that will connect the truck to the power module, and the communications cord with both positive and negative battery connections. With what’s provided, you can tell this install is much easier than expected.
Once everything is unboxed, we needed to find the injector harness on this 2015 Ford. Luckily, the harness is right up top next to the battery. The power module has two connection points on the back labeled clearly in “INJ” and “ECM”. With the injector harness in sight, you will remove the middle connection point which is the ECM.
Shown are the before and after STEINBAUER install. The new harness is plugged in and the power module itself is ready to be secured using zip ties in the upright positon.
Once the ECM plugin is removed, you will replace it with the new main harness plug. Be careful when plugging any of these plugs in and make sure they are secured tightly before testing. The safety bars on the top will snap and lock into place. Once your new harness has replaced the factory one, it is important that the rest of the plug ends go in the correct spots.
The original middle plug that goes to the engine, needs to be plugged into the injector side of the power module. The new harness you replaced it with needs to go to the ECM side of the module.
With both plugs in their final resting spots facing upwards towards the hood, they are ready to be plugged into the power module. But first, while the box isn’t in the way, this is a good time to hook the communications harness and the battery connections up. The communications harness goes into the obvious remaining slot on the module, and the battery connections go to their designated battery terminals that are clearly labeled.
The power module was designed with the intention of ease of installation. With the injector harness located right near the passenger side battery, all working areas are easily accesible.
The installation of this unit is done incredibly quick and requires no special tools or skills. This was done by hand and a half-inch wrench to loosen and tighten the battery connections. Just like that, you’re gaining up to 90 horsepower and 187 lb/ft of torque.
We are ecstatic about the results already from the power module and can’t wait to hear more feedback from the crew at Creative Trim on their new parts.
