For those of you who are ready, who aren’t ready, or just wanting to go watch, the first big event of the year is here. Coming up on March 7th through March 9th is the SunCoast Diesel Spring Shakedown at Emerald Coast Dragway in Holt, Florida. As you may know, track owner Ryan Milliken, driver of the infamous diesel-powered Chevrolet Nova has invited everyone out for the best racing week thus far in 2019.
If you’re planning on making this a vacation and plan on being down in the area prior to the event, SunCoast has planned out an eventful Thursday and Friday of activities before the event. On Thursday, from 5:30 PM until ???, there will be an Open House Party at Hardway Performance. There will be free adult beverages and plenty of fun to be had. On Friday, after a late evening at Hardway, SunCoast is hosting an Open House and Brunch with food and drink provided from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. If you have never been to either of these facilities, you cannot miss out on this opportunity.
So, here are the details. March 7th is a Pro Testing Day at the track. From 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM is a day to get any last minute items dialed in and knocked out. In anticipation of the weekend’s big event and the fact that its the first official event of the year, this is your time to get any winter bugs taken care of before you do it in front of a crowd. Limited to pro-tire only, meaning slick and/or drag radial ONLY. This testing day is not open to the public or spectators. If you’re interested in dialing in your car or truck prior to the event, contact Harway Performance for pricing details.
Now, with testing over, it’s time to race. Starting Friday, March 8th, there will be $7,500 in payouts in the three big classes. Truck Source Diesel Pro Limited Class has NO ENTRY FEE and holds a $5,000 prize. This has the potential to be one of the hottest new classes especially with that kind of payout. Up next is the STS No Time Truck Shootout offering $1,500, followed by STS 8.0 Index Shootout. Both STS classes are a $100 entry fee to race, but all tech cards are a ticket into a weekend VIP ticket.
Following the same platform as the Outlaw Diesel Super Series, Saturday’s classes will include Pro Dragster, Pro Mod, and Pro Street. All three pro categories are $150 entry fee with a guaranteed payout of $2,500. Other classes include 5.90, 6.70, 7.70, and Sportsman classes. Each class requires a $100 entry fee with a total pot of winnings of $2,000 in 5.90, $1,250 in 6.70, $1,000 in 7.70, and $750 in Sportsman.
