$_57-1Model A hot rods and rat rods are usually pretty similar. The same aesthetics are often repeated with little variation. So when the builders of this 1929 Ford set out, they took a different fork in the road…diesel! This panel Model A is slammed to the ground thanks to a custom 4-link chassis and air bagged suspension.$_57-3

Dual air compressors and a five gallon compressed air tank hold all the pressure needed to control the aggressive stance of this mean ’29. Neatly concealed in the back, the compressors and tank are accompanied by a pair of REDTOP Optima batteries.

Dual Viair compressors feed the 5-gallon tank, and dual Optima batteries proved the power.

The interior of this unique, Florida based, cruiser is minimalism at its best. Sheet steel seats are dimple die stamped and feature true handmade, aircraft styling. Framed by the seats is a modern battery disconnect to switch power between the two Optimas, select both, or fully disable the power system.

This modern touch is a hint at the quality and care that went into this build. A vintage steering wheel and custom dash will keep the driver and occupant in a retro state of mind but a modern shifter with a convertor lock will make sure the power makes it to the ground when you need it.

The 5.9-liter Cummins is out of a 1994 truck.

The powerplant up front in this coupe is a 5.9-liter Cummins 12-valve Diesel. The engine out of a 1994 donor truck will certainly be more reliable than the original powerplant and offer better drivability. This turbo diesel straight-six has been blacked out and features valve covers with patina to match the body. Exhaust exits the turbo straight up through an exhaust wrapped pipe for a conspicuous announcement of what powers this modernized rat rod.

Rolling on real white walls, the rake and chop of the roof line make this Ford a fittingly ratty example of Kustom culture. Rat rods and diesel coming together to make for a well paired restomod.
