As May approaches, we’re still unveiling all of the drivers in the Ultimate Callout Challenge qualifier. So, who else has bought and locked in their spots for this year’s event in Indianapolis? Let’s take a look.
Driver: Trevor Peterson
From the home of the original Ultimate Callout Challenge, Utah native, Trevor Peterson has locked-in in the 2018 Ultimate Callout Challenge qualifier. His 2006 Dodge Ram is a new build and with the help of Gillett Diesel Service, Industrial Injection, Randy’s’ Transmission, Edge Products, and Breakout Tuning Solutions, Peterson is going to be hitting it with everything it’s got.
Peterson is shooting for 2,000 horsepower on the dyno, a low nine to high eight-second pass in the quarter-mile, and make a statement during the sled pull as well. The Ram will be a Shredder series engine that contains a trio of turbochargers, dual CP3 pumps, and a nasty 48RE transmission.
Driver: Matthew Doyle
Missouri native Matthew Doyle works as a power plant maintenance technician Monday through Friday but spends his free time building his 6.7-liter Power Stroke. Doyle’s plan is to show that with quality parts and a good game plan you can compete at a high level.
This 6.7-liter Ford will utilize a built bottom end, dual modified pumps, and a single S484 turbocharger. Currently sitting at 1,231 horsepower and 2,000 lb-ft of torque, Doyle is planning on going the distance at this year’s Ultimate Callout Challenge qualifier.
Driver: Justin McNichols
Justin McNichols brings plenty of performance experience to the Ultimate Callout Challenge qualifier. He’s been voted into the Diesel Power Challenge in 2015-2017 and has had unfortunate events each time. Hoping to turn his luck around, McNichols will be bringing his Cummins-powered, fiberglass-bodied, 2004 Chevrolet 2500 to compete. Will Justin have what it takes to turn this streak of bad luck around?
Driver: Joe Virgilio
Joe Virgilio and his team at Virgilio Diesel Performance are bringing their 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 to compete in this year’s competition. With a best quarter-mile time of 9.50-seconds and also has pulled at many different events Virgilio has the experience to compete, but will he have the truck? The truck will be powered by a Fleece Competition 6.4-liter Cummins with a ton of fuel and air. Keep an eye out for the Kentucky-based Ram.
Driver: Chris Battey
Bringing a Fummins to the party is Chris Battey. Battey drives a 2005 Ford F-350 dually with a 5.9-liter Cummins engine backed by a 5R110 filled with Revmax Converters internals and a Diesel Performance Converters torque converter.
Like the transmission, the engine was built in-house at TMS Diesel and contains with Industrial Injection, CP Carrillo, ARP, and OE Cummins parts. The twin CP3 pumps and fuel injectors are from Exergy Performance and a James Barder Turbo Service S485 2.6 turbocharger. Driving in from Weare, New Hampshire, Battey is in-route for the prize.
Driver: Richard “Jersey” Nicolette
With his 2004.5 Dodge Ram 2500, Richard Nicolette, will be taking his competitive side into Indianapolis. With the help of Firepunk Diesel and D & J Precision Machine, the truck has evolved immensely in the last two years. A truck called “Short Fuse” will be handling a D & J Precision deck-plate engine backed by a Fireupnk Diesel Comp-3 transmission.
Short Fuse utilizes twin FASS 260 pumps that feed a pair of 14mm CP3’s and continues on to a set of 500-percent over stock Exergy Injectors. Airing out all of this fuel is a trio of S480 turbochargers from Engineered Diesel. Richard, also known as “Jersey”, also would like to remind everyone to lock up your females, because he’s going to win and steal them all.
Driver: Dan Lee
Addressing from Brighton, Colorado, Dan Lee is here to show everyone that the average guy can make it just like the big shops. Lee’s truck has been dyno tested, raced, and sled pulled.
After surveying the competition, he thinks he’s got what it takes to make it to the podium. With a best horsepower of 974 and 1933 lb/ft of torque, he’s shot down the race track at 11.62-seconds
Driver: Verlon Southwick
Tinkering on the truck since 2011, Verlon Southwick is taking a proven sportsman and 11.90 index truck to a completely different level. With an end goal of 2,000 horsepower and a nine-second quarter mile time, Southwick’s Duramax is undergoing some serious changes.
Southwick has been through broken pistons, cranks, and torque converters over the years but with the help Edge Products, Custom Auto, DmaxStore, Opti-Lube, and DieselUpgrades.com he’s looking to make a Duramax the top dog at the end of the weekend at the historic Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis, Indiana.
