Video: AWD Hydrostatic Diesel Motorcycle

Some people build muscle cars, some people build trucks, others wrench on imports, and then there are those who like to stand out in a crowd. How many front and rear wheel drive motorcycles have you seen? How many diesel motorcycles have you seen? Put those together and you are in a class all to yourself. This motorcycle appears to be a diesel-punk creation, an off shoot from the steam-punk movement but emphasizing the aesthetics of diesel power.

This guy had some serious creativity, and engineering work to do in order to come up with this contraption! Rolling down the road this bike must weigh the same as a small car and has the wheel base of a school bus. The suspension is an air bag setup and is adjustable for ride height. Pulling up to his destinations the owner can just drop this thing to the ground and walk away, no kick stand necessary.

The drivetrain and powerplant are a somewhat perplexing pump and fluid power transfer arrangement. The owner explains that the drive pump is a single fixed high speed, meaning that the bike is not an in between the lights racer. Think land-speed car, gearing so high they need a push vehicle to start them down the track. This bike will achieve around 90 mph according to the owner but getting there is a slow journey as the road speed matches the pump.

Rolling on mud tires and with a stretched wheel base the turning circle of this bike makes it less than practical, but who cares! The styling is reminiscent of WWII fighter art and is suitably obnoxious sounding. Siting on the exhaust must mean a warm seat and a sooty backside at your destination.

That has to be the hottest exhaust exit of any bike

The owner chronicles his build in his other videos, we eagerly anticipate future developments in this diesel-punk esoteric transportation device.
