During the Street Car Take over at Orlando raceway, 1320 Video came across one of the brashest and wildest diesel hot rods we have ever seen. They found this International Rat Rod that was built into a mean diesel rodent by Steve.
Powering this International Rat Rod is a 12-valve Cummins diesel engine equipped with a Hamilton head and a pair of Borg Warner turbos (a cast wheel 63 mm on the intake manifold and a billet wheel 80mm as the primary grenade).
The exhaust exits in traditional International fashion through five-inch stacks that rise from the rear of the cab. This big valve brawler is bolted to a dodge 47re transmission with a manual valve body to bang through the gears.
Steve doesn’t take his International Rat Rod to the track often. Instead he mostly runs on the street in both digs and roll races. His favorite race was when he took on a late model ZL1 Camaro and kept destroying him in the digs. How badly did he destroy this Camaro?
Well he didn’t say, but for perspective in the quarter mile his International Rat Rod turned an ET of 11.44 at 122.56 mph. The pass looked amazing but Steve only thought it was OK, he was disappointed that he couldn’t build enough boost at the line. Either way this rat rod drag race put on one hell of a show.
Internationals have become a rare sight in the 21st Century. It’s a treat to see one built as rat rod and drag racing. If you are in the Orlando area, see if you can catch Steve and his rat out cruising and challenge him to a race.
