Video: Diesel Truck Pull Champion Heather Powell Shows How It’s Done

Heather Powell, co-owner of Dan’s Diesel Performance, has always been a fan of sled pulling, and dove in head first back in 2010 when she spent much of that season with Dan Clarke and his 3.0 truck “Mistress” traveling the country. She helped with the build and even piloted the truck to several 1st place finishes. A couple years later with the purchase of her own truck “Hank,” she paved her own way into the motorsports community.

“My truck is a 2002 LB7 (extended cab short bed) Chevy with a ZF-6 transmission, and it has more than 270,000 miles on the clock. I purchased the truck in January 2012 out of California, slowly added a few bolt-on parts, pulled in the stock class for the 2012 season, and then began the real build process for 2013,” said Powell.

She must be doing something right because Powell took the 2013 2.5 Diesel Points Championship – Southwest Wisconsin Pullers, the 2013 2.5 Diesel Points Championship – Midwest Tractor & Truck Pullers Association, and the 2014 2.5 Diesel Points Championship – Midwest Tractor & Truck Pullers Association.

The video above is of Powell making a pull at the 2014 Utica Fest. Powell told us, “It’s a yearly event, held by a wonderful group of people. It’s three fun-filled days of all sorts of activities, ball games, and tractor and truck pulling from stock class to pro stock tractors. Utica is a small country town, just a short drive south of Madison, Wisconsin.”

“It’s commonly known among all who spectate and compete at Utica Fest that the corn field is the ultimate goal. It drives the crowd wild and is always fun for spectators and drivers. The sled operator doesn’t mind, nor does the land owner. You hook and just do your best. The sled is set slightly lighter to allow for a good show as the open class is what wraps up the weekend of pulling. I was ecstatic that I made it into the field, and hearing the roar of the crowd was the ultimate adrenaline rush.”
