With a big ad budget, you can work with extremely talented and creative individuals. Recently, Honda worked with London ad agency mcgarrybowen to promote their CR-V 1.6 liter diesel. While this engine option isn’t available in the US, this commercial is still pretty cool and we figured we would share. From the first moment we began watching the ad, we were “all in.” Every time we felt like we knew where the ad was going or what was going to happen next, another illusion happened and yes, you guessed it…foiled again! That’s what makes not only this ad but this marketing platform so genius. The entire campaign is based on making the impossible possible, the same stance Honda is taking about their new diesel engine in the CR-V. At every turn, they show you that if you can envision what you want to be happening, it will be and all obstacles will just move out of the way. Amazing parallels being drawn at every twist and turn of the ad.
“Honda’s new CR-V 1.6 diesel film demonstrates that not everything is what it first seems. Through the ingenuity of its engineering, Honda has designed a fuel efficient SUV and done the illogical,” according to Honda. Now we aren’t sure what is necessarily illogical, but this is what prompted their ad agency to create this ad.
The Director is Chris Palmer and the Executive Creative Directors are Paul Jordan and Angus Macadam. Together these guys have created one optical illusion after another to illustrate that not everything is as meets the eye. On cool thing they also, did, was to film the making of this creative ad. Curious how it all works? Check it below, get the scoop and form your own opinions.
Oh and hey Honda, feel free to send these bad boys to the US too. We would love to try one out!
