I’ve personally been to this event for going on eight years, and I’m automatically assuming the August heat will be miserable. Fortunately for the spectators and the competitors, that August heat wasn’t present. Unfortunately for the spectators and the competitors, today’s action, both sled pulling and drag racing, were set behind due to the nonstop pouring rain and the rumble of thunder.
With Day 1 complete, the Scheid Diesel Extravaganza crowd was ready for action, but mother nature had other plans. The rain obviously ruined both sled pull and drag racing tracks and took hours to even get them prepared for competition. Gates opened at 8, and no engines started until 3:30 PM. Needless to say, with over 150 sled pull trucks and nearly 100 drag racing trucks, it was a long night.
So, after hours of sitting in tents or campers, things started to get fired up. We had project DeadSpool ready for battle in the 6.70 Index class and we could see some sleds being drug off in the distance. After a long drawn out night, winners were crowned on both ends of the event.

For those of you who don’t know, in the sled pulling world, this is the event of all events. The Scheid Diesel Extravaganza is the biggest sled pulling event in the country and if you’re placing in the top of the field, you’ve got things figured out.
Drag Racing Day 1 And Pro Qualifying

As you can see, the stands were packed for some drag racing action. Dustin Jackson did not disappoint with some blistering fast passes.
Dustin Jackson and his little black Ford Ranger ended the day in the #1 Qualifying position in Pro Street. In Pro Mod, it was Larson Miller in his Save The Rack’s S10 taking the pole. In Pro Dragster, It was Wade Moody leading the pack, and Rick Fox with the best qualifying time.
As expected, the Save The Rack's entry, piloted by Larson Miller, made a few sub five-second passes and they were definitely a sight to see. Rick Fox's hard work over the year is still paying off landing himself in the #1 qualifying spot again.
In the slower, yet similarly competitive, index classes, a few winners were crowned. Larson Miller in the famous “Quad Cab” truck took home the win in the 6.70 Index class. Kevin Frye, in his red-hot Ram, took home the 7.70 Index win. Like Miller and Frye, Ryan Riddle, also backed by Firepunk Diesel, took home the E.T Sportsman win. All three trucks and drivers were on the money all day.
As with any diesel event there was some carnage during day two, but the overall experience was a rush! What was your favorite part of Day 2? Tell us in the comments below! Stay tuned to DieselArmy.com for more coverage.
