Established in 2005, Trident Sports Car Ltd isn’t your typical sports car manufacturer. Yeah, they are focused delivering outstanding performance, speed and glitz. What makes Trident pretty unique is that they are, also, extremely focused on delivering high fuel efficiency vehicles.

Trident isn’t focused on bringing another electric or hybrid car into the market like the Fisker Karma. Instead, they are bringing in high horsepower production V8 models that are able to achieve great fuel economy.

Trident just announced two new models to join the Iceni, the Iceni Magna and Iceni Venturer. The Iceni is their flagship model boasting to be the world’s fastest and most fuel efficient DIESEL sports car.

The Iceni is capable of more than 190 mph and, get this, 2,000 miles per tank! The Magna and Venturer are able to make the same claim. Do we have your attention yet?

The Iceni line features a 6.6l v8 turbo diesel. While we haven’t been able to confirm this, the specs and information we are seeing leads us to believe the engine is built on the same platform as the Duramax. The base model offers 395 horsepower and 700 lbs-ft of torque. This results in a blistering 0-60 mph time of 3.7 seconds. If that isn’t enough for you, there is a performance package that bumps the power up to 430 horsepower and 950 lbs-ft of torque. For those lucky few who can afford it, there is even a track package that is able to lay down 660 hp and 1,050 lbs-ft of torque.

The exterior styling is unique to Trident. Their clean lines and unique look are sure to have people taking a double take trying to figure out what they just saw. While you on the inside will be enjoying comfort as it’s finest. Iceni is able to build each car to their customer’s unique specification. This will ensure that on those long 2,000 mile road trips, you are comfortable.

The bad news is that the starting price is 96,000 pounds. In today’s economy that translates to roughly $161,000 dollars. The track package is roughly another $50,000. While this isn’t exactly the most affordable car in the market, we are excited to see diesels being offered at this level.

Generally the higher end the buyer, the pickier the buyer. Having a manufacturer offering this type of vehicle and it being well received, does offer a glimmer of hope that more vehicles could be coming with high performance diesel options. According to the press release, there was a pre-launch waiting list and demand is high across the globe compared to what they can produce.
