This 1991 H1 Hummer is not your average blingy mall cruiser. It is owned by Hummer sponsored Baja champion Rod Hall. Rod Hall is famed for his illustrious Baja racing career. He is the only person to have raced every single Baja 1000 since the race began in 1967. Then it was called The Mexican 1000, and was put on by NORRA. Since the golden days of desert racing Hall has won the ‘Mil over 20 times and has been the Hummer ambassador to desert racing since 1991.

This race-prepped Hummer was a gift to Hall from AM General as a gesture of their teaming up to launch a Hummer based desert race team. The truck is far from a stock H1, desert racing demands suspension that is not only extremely durable, but also finely tunable. This H1 rides on BRW bypass shocks to dampen the undulations of the Mexican desert. Structural reinforcements are a must when taking a vehicle into the wild west of desert racing, an engine cage, front and rear bumpers, cargo racks, and interior cage lend strength and safety to this rig.

Painted in Classic Rod Hall race scheme this pre-runner is equipped to take on the desert. As is the hallmark design of all H1 Hummers Hall’s truck rides high with in excess of 16 inches of ground clearance under the portal axle four wheel-drive system. Rolling on a set of brand new BFG Baja T/A tires this truck looks the part as well as it can get the job done. Two spare tires on beadlocks are carried in the rear along with an auxiliary fuel cell to supplement the stock main tank.

The 6.5-liter turbo diesel V8 is intercooled, and features a custom Zumi intake. Bolted to an automatic Turbo 400 transmission this drivetrain is designed for high-speed desert racing but remains street legal. The interior is pure pre-runner. Corbeau seats and Crow Harnesses secure the front occupants, racing radios, GPS and wireless internet are equipped to make pre running the Baja a well equipped expedition rather than a mechanical fumble.
