If you have been at one of the major east coast diesel events over the past few years, then you may recognize the Zoomierat! This 1940 Chevrolet is a very unique creation that catches a TON of attention no matter where it is and it is up for grabs on eBay.
To say this is a unique combination of parts that Doug Brarens a.k.a. the Metal Man put together would be an understatement. The ’40 Chevrolet is supported by a 2×3” frame. Mounted to the frame is a GM 6.5 Diesel with about 60,000 miles. On top of the 6.5 is a hollowed out 6-71 blower body that has been gutted and actually houses the air filter. On the sides of the 6.5 is a set of Zoomie headers. I.E. Zoomie on a Rat = Zoomierat!
For fuel, an injection pump was pulled off of a military engine and the injectors were pulled from a marine engine. Behind the engine sits a 2 speed Powerglide with an Ultra-Bell. The rear end is a Ford 9” with a 3.50:1 gear ratio that is connected to the frame via a 4 link with coil over shocks. The front end is out an Opel GT front end with Manta disc brakes. All of the wheels are Centerline Wheels that have Hoosier rubber mounted to them. The fronts are pizza cutters and the rears are 29x12R15’s.
Giving the rat a unique look, a ’29 grille shell was modified with a custom made spider web by the Metal Man himself. No matter how you look at this or what angle you see it from, it is just plain cool. The front windows do open and the sides roll up and down to make sure you can get plenty of air flow through the vehicle.
According to Steven Bachert who helped build the rat and currently drives it, the blue that you see is the original color of the truck and the last time it was registered is in the mid to late 50’s.
The Zoomierat actually moves decent for being naturally aspirated. Bachert said, “the truck runs a consistent 14.65 in the 14 mile not a rocket but it’s a great bracket ET vehicle.”
This is just a very cool ride and one that we thought we would pass along. Check it out and let us know what you think!!!
