Everybody has been frantically waiting for someone to put one of these all-aluminum engines to the test. They are out there, they are being used, but D&J Precision machine’s latest build, “The Executioner”, has enough manpower and upgrades behind it make some waves throughout the industry. It’s been a few months now where teasers have been filtered out and we finally got to see a completed picture and my goodness does it look good.
It has taken some time to get to this point but when you’re trying to develop something groundbreaking, things take time. This all-aluminum engine has been put through the paces on the engine dyno in hopes to learn new things about these engines and collect a ton of data for future development. After day one of the engine dyno, all of the data they wanted to record was recorded and things were looking great. For a very limited fuel quantity, the engine has effortlessly made 1,280-horsepower.
Day two of the dyno session went equally as good but upping the ante a bit. Still being conservative, the Executioner made 1,500-horsepower during the injector testing. According to their Facebook page, they were testing fuel injectors to decide which injector would be best to use when they really open it up. With new designs being tested, anything can happen.
Unfortunately, their session ended with a few broken valve spring bridges. “I guess that is what we get for trying to push the limits. At least we know what won’t work,” said Drew Pumphrey, owner of D & J Precision Machine. “This is a perfect example of why we test our products before selling them. We will make adjustments and go back at it.”
Cody Fisher with Firepunk Diesel was the trusted welder on this one-off exhaust manifold for the Executioner. Hot Shot’s Secret is also the preferred engine oil when testing this engine as well.
After tearing into this engine after the small breakages, everything looks perfect so far after 12 pulls on the dyno and six of them being over 1,500-horsepower. Pumphrey said they aren’t going to make it back on the engine dyno until after the upcoming 2019 PRI Trade Show, but if you’re in the Indianapolis area December 12th-14th, you can catch this engine on display at the Fluidampr booth.
Understand that this isn’t a normal engine that we know like the back of our hand. This is a completely fresh, foreign area these guys are in so it will take some time to perfect but once it’s lined out, this engine could really change our industry from a performance level.
