What Is A Fuel Catalyst And Can It Help Your Diesel Run Better

When we talk about diesel fuel additives, we are discussing a way to increase cetane and help keep the injectors clean. But with the advent of emissions equipment on late-model trucks, have you thought about ways to maintain your Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF)? The folks at Pittsburgh Power think about that very thing and have developed Max Mileage Fuel Borne catalyst.

I did not call Max Mileage an additive, because there are differences between a fuel catalyst and a fuel additive. A fuel catalyst is a type of technology developed to increase fuel efficiency and reduce emissions. These products can work in many ways by targeting the core problems behind incomplete combustion. A fuel additive is a chemical substance that is added to fuels to impart or improve certain properties. Max Mileage Fuel Catalyst modifies surfaces in both fuel particles and existing carbon deposits, and this change increases the combustion rate and temperature of the modified surfaces. This increases engine efficiency.

The proprietary formula is supplemented with a fuel injector cleaner that removes fuel injector coking deposits and prevents new deposits from forming. This is critical to maintaining factory-rated fuel economy by ensuring optimal fuel “atomization” and fuel injector spray patterns into the cylinder.

Max Mileage increases thermal efficiency by accelerating the burn rate of diesel molecules of all shapes and sizes. This results in more B.T.U.s (British Thermal Units) being released earlier during the power stroke instead of wasted on soot and high E.G.T. (Exhaust Gas Temperature). On average, Max Mileage increases the thermal efficiency of any engine by roughly 10 percent.

Using a fuel catalyst can increase fuel mileage and reduce regen cycles.

While soot and other diesel leftovers typically burn at around 1,000 degrees Fahrenheit, Max Mileage catalyst also initiates the burning of soot at lower temperatures. Once in the exhaust system, the catalyst continues working by burning soot at roughly 750 degrees. This keeps your engine’s internal components cleaner, reduces the need for regens, and means less soot in your after-treatment system.

Max Mileage has been on the market for about five years. It was formulated by Dr. Jane Gates, chemist and chief scientific officer for Better Diesel Inc. The owner of Pittsburgh Power, Bruce Mallinson, developed a relationship with Better Diesel and became the lead distributor after extensive dynamometer testing to confirm the catalyst’s benefits.
