225 Mile Per Hour Diesel? Jared Jones Does It In The Scheid Dragster

Jones_13

Over the past few years, there have been few people who could challenge Jared Jones in his Scheid powered dragster. This was until Marty Thacker, piloting the Hypermax Dragster, showed up on the scene in 2012. Thacker took the ET record away from Jones at the Texas Motorplex in 2012 with a 6.67 ET and captured the MPH record at 211.86 MPH.

The entire Scheid crew worked, relentlessly, to reset both ET and MPH and in 2013, again at the Texas Motorplex, they grabbed the ET record with a 6.64 run but couldn’t capture the MPH record away from Thacker.

Well, here we are midway through the season and it has finally happened. Jared Jones came to the NHRDA Indianapolis Diesel Shootout hoping for something great. The track had a lot of bite, which allowed the higher horsepower light vehicles to launch aggressively.

How aggressively, well, enough that Jones laid down a 6.37 run at 225.30 MPH run early in the day. All he had to do; was back it up. With drag racing, in order to capture a record, you have to back that record run up to within 1 percent (or faster). So, that means Jones had to run a 6.435 ET and 223.04 MPH.

Jones_14The video above is the first attempt to back up the run. He managed a 6.466 run at 225.00 MPH. This was good enough to, finally, recapture the NHRDA MPH record and the 6.37 run does work to back up the 6.466 run. So, Jones officially captured both the NHRDA Top Diesel ET and MPH records at the NHRDA Indianapolis Diesel Shootout!

Unfortunately, this final attempt to reset the ET record was unsuccessful and the 6.466 ET record stands. Now, rumors have it that the dragster actually has a lot left in it and it is just a matter of having enough bite on the track to put the additional power down to launch harder. From what we have heard from inside sources, the dragster may actually be able to lay down a 5.9x run in the right conditions.

We are, certainly, excited to see how things will shake out with the remainder of the season. There are now 3 vehicles (Jared Jones in the Scheid Dragster, Marty Thacker in the Hypermax Dragster and John Robinson in the Power Services Altered). Stay tuned to see some incredible side by side action!
