TTaking a totally demolished pickup truck and somehow transforming it into a high-horsepower daily driver sounds like a truly impossible backyard engineering challenge. The (in)famous WhistlinDiesel crew decided to create a terrifying Duramax Go-Kart out of the mangled wreckage of Chevy Silverado surviving from their cheap diesel truck challenge.

Reviving The Wreckage
Getting the twisted metal to actually move under its own power required some deeply questionable mechanical fixes. The crew started by ripping out the smashed radiator and completely deleting the factory intercooler. To force the turbocharger to work without those parts, they simply routed a metal pipe straight from the hot side to the cold side. Getting the bent chassis somewhat straight involved wrapping a heavy chain around an excavator and yanking the steel violently. Brady Dreibelbis pointed out: “Now, one awesome thing that Tyler did is he welded this big old crash bar under the front of it.” That single piece of fabrication essentially held the entire front end together.

Building An Open-Concept Cab
Massive heavy-duty trucks generally weigh way too much to be agile on the loose dirt. To shed massive amounts of weight from this Duramax Go-Kart, the crew grabbed a reciprocating saw and violently hacked off the roof pillars and doors. Removing the heavy sheet metal completely exposed the interior to the elements. This aggressive weight reduction strategy left the driver sitting precariously on top of shattered glass while attempting to steer.

A Totally Unsafe Test Drive
Starting the engine involved tickling a crooked fuse inside the smashed electrical box until the relays finally clicked. Once the diesel engine roared back to life, the crew immediately realized the truck had absolutely zero working brakes. Despite the massive safety hazard and a small engine fire that required a water hose rescue, they ripped the topless rig around the farm. Dreibelbis joked: “I can’t lie, we have ourselves a little go-kart with Super Safe.”

A Violent Duramax Go-Kart
The wildly chaotic test drive ended abruptly when the truck lost control and rolled down a steep dirt hill. The massive heavy-duty rig violently smashed straight into a tree and completely split one of the front tires in half. Even after taking such an incredibly brutal final impact, the core engine block somehow survived the destruction intact.
