If you haven’t heard, I’m curious as to how big the rock you’ve been under is, but for the first time ever, a diesel-powered machine has landed itself in the three-second zone in the eighth-mile. At a recent event at South Georgia Motorsports Park, Firepunk Diesel shattered their previous record and took the belt for the fastest diesel pass of all time. With that being said, it takes a well-balanced machine to accomplish that.
With balance in mind, my first thought is Fluidampr. Fluidampr, among other pivotal companies, were part of this accomplishment and I reached out to talk to them to get their take on what it feels like to be involved with such an incredible feat. I spoke with both Briain LeBarron and Nick Orefice about the matter, but it was Orefice, Fluidampr’s Customer Service and Account Rep that took the reigns.

DA: How does it feel for you guys to be apart of something so huge? The first to the 3’s can only happen once and you’re a pivotal part of that.
NO: First and foremost, congratulations to the Firepunk Team. If not for their hard work and dedication to the sport this wouldn’t have happened. Next, we need to thank Drew and his team at D&J Precision for being pioneers in this sport and taking it to new levels with the Executioner. It’s pretty awesome and a very historic moment for the diesel industry.
Everyone is chasing the next thing. Getting into the 5’s then 4’s now 3’s, at what point is it not even fun anymore…… Never. Having Fluidampr on these engines shows the confidence of our customers in our products. Working with teams like Firepunk, who run D&J Precision engines, has been very helpful in keeping up with the industry and the direction it is going. We look forward to more competitions and being there to support them with their needs.
DA: Do you feel like they are reaching the limits of the balancer?
NO: Fluidampr performance dampers are overbuilt and we intend to keep them there.
DA: At what point do you guys look at another design for more power? Or is this enough and the sky is the limit?
NO: We have the Competition Series dampers which allow us to design flexibility to continue keeping up with the massive power the engine builders and teams are making. When they call, we answer. One great thing about our Competition Series dampers is that they can be modified to fit within the builder’s envelope when a direct bolt-up catalog damper is not available. Plus, due to our unique viscous design, you get a broad range of torsional vibration protection across the entire rpm range.
DA: There are probably more vehicles out there that people know about (tractors) putting these balancers to more of a test than this, right?
NO: Yes, absolutely. We have always supported other motorsports, like tractor pulling. We have released a damper specific to their needs and it is SFI rated.
DA: Drag racing is all about traction and control whereas tractors are what seem to be somewhat controlled but more power and wheel speed.
NO: 100%! The tractor pulling teams are nuts. 3,000 plus horsepower isn’t anything to this bunch. We work with many pro teams to resolve any torsional vibration issues they are experiencing. Looking towards the future, we can’t wait to see how diesel performance evolves. Some new advancements are on the horizon and we look forward to being a part of that as well.

Fluidampr has, and always will be, be a part of the diesel industry. Their products have proven themselves over and over and to be involved with something like this has to relay the message to you guys, the industry, they offer parts you can trust.
