All Out Diesel Assembles Outrageous 7-Second Duramax ’67 GMC Truck!

As many are acutely aware, due to the inherent rpm operating range of a diesel engine, peak horsepower output is typically much less than a gasoline-burning counterpart. But if you introduce enough boost into one, they’ll do some mighty impressive things … and Texas native Scott Walker of All Out Diesel Performance is hoping to impress with the no-holds-barred new pickup truck that he, his wife Ashley, and the All Out team are constructing.

imagejpeg_0-1-2 copyThe truck, a 1967 GMC stepside, has been built with a rough and rugged exterior in mind, complete with a weathered and worn-out camper shell installed for good measure. The Walker’s have aptly coined the truck the “Farm Girl”, an ode to the Farm Truck made famous on Street Outlaws the provided the inspiration, and to Ashley’s tentative plans to handle some of the driving chores of this behemoth that’s anything but a farming utility vehicle. “The only thing pretty about this truck is going to be my wife,” Walker says with a laugh.

Under that intentionally bland exterior, however, rests a truly state-of-the-art chassis and collection of parts and pieces that make this, for all intents and purposes, a Pro Modified car cloaked in a truck body and packing a few extra pounds around the waist. “Every drivetrain component in this truck is top-notch. You won’t find anything better,” Walker says.

Walker built the 25.5-spec chassis himself at his shop in Cibolo, Texas, with guidance from friend, Mike Clark. Walker tells us he’s increased the wall thickness (.120”) of the tubing on the roll cage and the rest of the key bars in the truck (it still retains the factory framerails, as well) in hopes that the National Hot Rod Diesel Association will find it suitable enough to permit a greater performance ceiling than at current in the Pro Street division. The Pro Street class is limited to an 8.50 in the 1/4-mile, regardless of chassis spec or weight.

“This is a bit of a ‘Frankenstein’ project — it’s the only truck ever built like this, and we’re hoping to change the rules with it so they’ll let me go 7.50. I’m confident the truck will go 7.50s,” he says.

Power comes from a 6.6-liter Duramax engine with a pair of turbochargers that produces right at 1,500 horsepower at present, with another estimated 900-1000 horsepower left to be untapped once the team gets a handle on the truck. Walker is sending the power through a virtually bulletproof M&M Transmissions-built Turbo 400 with a bolt-together lockup converter, back to an 11-inch Mark Williams Pro Mod-style housing. The truck sports Chris Alston’s Chassisworks suspension on all four corners, and a pair of big Stroud Pro Mod parachutes to stop it.

“We’re really hoping that it makes some waves … that the blood, sweat, and tears, along with the all of the money invested in it, really pays off. We want to break some records with it, and hopefully get some changes made to the sport,” Walker says.

imagejpeg_0-1-1The truck, as you might expect with a full steel body, campershell, a twin turbo diesel engine, and thick-walled tubing, does a number on the scales, coming in at close to 4,500 pounds race-ready. Walker says he could potentially bring it down to 4,000, but would have to do away with the shell and other attributes that give it the character he was after. And so, he and Ashley will be attempting to push one of the heavier cars to ever go mid-sevens.

“I’m hoping to grab the interest of the population that we don’t have yet — there aren’t a lot of females in the truck world, and we want to reach out to them with this thing. At the same time, we want to prove that what we’ve built, with the same chassis that lighter cars are allowed to go 6.00 at well over 200 mph, can safely run 7.50,” Walker says in closing.
