Dynamometers are a tuning tool. It doesn’t matter what type of motorsport you’re involved with, the “dyno” is used to dial in your engine combination. You can simulate real conditions and see how your setup reacts and make your adjustments however you wish to best prepare yourself for success. If you haven’t seen it, FuelTech has been hot lapping high-powered vehicles on their hub dyno over on their YouTube channel.
While racecars may not be your thing, tractors might be. I just happened to be scrolling through YouTube and happened to see a Super Stock tractor but something was up. It wasn’t on dirt, it wasn’t in a trailer, it was wheel and tireless and bolted to FuelTech’s in-house mainline hub dyno. These hub dynos are already cool but now you’ve got a known winning Super Stock tractor on it? I’m in.
This is Galot Motorsports‘ AGCO DT255 Super Stock tractor that is powered by an inline-six DT466 engine. Although you may be familiar with this engine, this one features an methonol-filled fuel system and a set of spark plugs, and three Harts Diesel turbochargers to make it go. This tractor originally came out with roughly 225-horsepower and something tells me its just a few hundred horsepower over that now.
Underneath the hood of this shiny body is the 650ci DT466 engine that came out of a school bus chassis. On top is an all-aluminum cylinder head that features HEMI style combustion chambers. Feeding this engine with air is easy thanks to the three monster turbochargers that are configured in a compound format and pegs the boost gauges out at 110-115-PSI.
After finding the line they want to take on the dirt, they leave the line at 7,500-RPM, they then slip the monster 13.5-inch Crower clutch and away it goes. With an engine combination like this, it makes pulling a 60,000-pound sled look easy. Check out the video right here!
