Diesels On The Web, Issue #1

DIESELSONTHEWEB1_1_edited-1

Welcome to Diesels On The Web, where we look around the internet for what’s cooking with regard to diesel. From general topics to videos to forums and more, we invite you to get a quick peek at how diesel showed up on the information superhighway this week.

Forums: Swapping An Aisin For A 68RFE (Cummins), Gas Station Attendant Filled Up With Gas, What Do? (Duramax), Super Duty Wrecked After Being Side-Swiped By An Old Lady (Power Stroke)!

Many are discussing the virtues of the 68RFE versus the Aisin AS68RC over on the Cummins Forum.

Forum-wise, a few topics regarding each of the Big Three diesel makers popped out. Over on Cummins Forum, NAPLES_CUMMINS said: “My 2016 had an Aisin tranny which is great for pulling heavy loads but not so great for a deleted and tuned truck. Is it possible to swap an Aisin for a 68RFE? If so, what is entailed and how hard would it be?”

Other users chimed in, and recommended that he either: keep the current truck; sell the Aisin truck for an stock-equipped 68RFE truck; or consider a 48RE swap. The first two options sound the most reasonable and certainly less arduous, but one replier put it well when he asked: “Wait, you bought the truck with a trans to do what it’s meant for and don’t want the tranny anymore? [What the hell?]”

Over on Duramax Forum, s.walsh was understandably upset after his latest visit to the gas station. While there, the station attendant was filling up s.walsh’s 2015 Duramax when s.walsh noticed the wrong-colored handle was being used. Uh oh!

He hadn’t noticed in time, so the truck had about 30 gallons of 87 octane in it. Fortunately, s.walsh hadn’t started it yet, so none of the fuel had made it to the injectors or engine. Also, the gas station offered to pay for repairs; an honorable gesture, to be sure. What s.walsh wanted to know was – how bad was the damage?

“Drain the tank, refill, and I’d add some lubricity additive to the diesel also (to help with any remaining, highly diluted at this point, gasoline). You’ll be fine,” reassured Hook’em_Horns.

Over at PowerStroke.org, lowmpg's accident in April was a hot topic of discussion. [link=http://www.powerstroke.org/forum/general-6-7-discussion-2011-2016/1239921-about-month-getting-close-done-fixing-after-wreck.html}PowerStroke.org{/link}

Finally, the Power Stroke guys were discussing lowmpg’s accident from April, where an old lady drover her car into the truck’s rear passenger tire. A spin and flip later, and the 2013 F-350 was on its side.

The story has a happy ending, with lowmpg’s truck restored to its former glory. “She rides better than she did before the accident, amazingly,” said lowmpg. All told, the damage was $34,500, including rebuilding and a rental vehicle.

Fortunately, the Super Duty is back to its normal self now.
