Eric Eldreth of  Innovative Diesel Performance (IDP) is a tuning guru who has been improving how Fords work for many years. During a recent conversation, he started talking about how they were taking a plow truck that he had just bought and turning it into a 10 second drag truck.

We started following the build and are quite impressed with the speed at which they have converted this work truck into a 10-second quarter-mile racer. Eldreth is pretty confident that the truck will break into the 9s shortly. Obviously, Eldreth and IDP team member, Gordon Lindamood, a Dodge Cummins specialist at Innovative have done quite a bit of tuning to the truck, but tuning alone won’t get you to where this truck is now.

Eldreth assembled an impressive host of parts to add to the truck. The bottom end of the motor remains stock, but the top end has been upgraded with  Hamilton Cams’ valve springs, ARP head studs, and Exergy Performance 200-horsepower injectors. To support the necessary fuel requirements, Eldreth opted to run a set of ATS Dual Fuelers and a FASS Titanium 220 pump.

On the air side of the equation, he opted for a 67mm S400 from BorgWarner that is mounted on a Stainless Diesel exhaust manifold. After the air is charged, it runs through a Mishimoto intercooler and then through the Wilson Manifolds intake manifold. If that wasn’t enough air, Eldreth installed a custom nitrous system on the truck. A 44mm Tial Sport wastegate is used to control the drive pressure.

Hoping to keep the transmission together for a complete pass, Eldreth sent it to Wilson Alignment to install a lot of Goerend transmission parts. Once the transmission was back IDP, Shane Handy, diesel specialist at IDP, and Lindamood had their hands full installing everything in the truck. With the powertrain handled, the next objective was to add a set of custom traction bars by Jamie at Cummins Performance Parts. If all that wasn’t enough, a set of 20×9.5 BMF Novakane wheels were added wrapped in Nitto 4205 tires.

What does all of that equal, well the first pass was 10.80 at 120 mph, and the second pass was 10.30 at 125 mph. Eldreth is pretty confident that the next trip to the track will show a 9 as the first number.
