We all love the thrill of listening to the turbo spooling up, the tires screaming, and the smoke billowing out of the exhaust. When a diesel has the muscle to back up its standout image, it makes for a combination we can all respect and admire. That’s the case with Greg Maggard’s 2006 Duramax.
Greg calls Osteen, Florida his home. For a living, he builds and installs custom closets and cabinetry for Closet Envee, and when he’s not working on wooden creations, he’s working on diesel recreation with his truck, lovingly called “Dirtygirl.”
“I’ve always been interested in diesel performance and my 2006 LBZ is my first diesel truck,” said Greg. “I bought it as a state-owned work truck with 232,000 miles on it after making a deal with my then-girlfriend, now-wife that I would not spend any money on it until it was paid off.”
Greg made good on his promise, and then went about getting the Duramax beefed up for competition. “I envisioned it as a green truck lifted on military running gear and battling it out in truck pulls,” he said. He first tasted victory in Ocoee, Florida, when he took third place “just six hours after we drove her out of the paint booth. Since then, we have won several trophies in different classes all across Florida.”

“She’s been lowered in the front by three inches, and in the back by five inches,” said Greg. “My fastest time to date has been 13.6 seconds at 98.4 miles per hour. She has 277,000 miles on the clock now and is still used as a daily driver.”
The truck has since been given a bevy of upgrades, from 20×12 KMC XD Grenade wheels to a Fass 150gph lift pump. But any racing vehicle worth its salt also has to have some special treatment to the tuning department. For that aspect, Greg reached for EFI Live and had his friends at McFoo Racing take care of everything.
“McFoo Racing offered to sponsor me, and they only trust EFI Live to do their tuning,” said Greg. “As far as the experience goes, after having EFI Live installed, I will never go back to box tuners again. It has been a wonderful experience and I will definitely be putting EFI Live on any other trucks I purchase in the future.”
By the end of 2016, Greg expects to be able to run in the middle to low 12-second bracket, and will also look toward the long-term goal of hitting 1,000 horsepower. Currently, he claims to make 530 horsepower and 1,100 lb-ft of torque, although that hasn’t been dyno-proven.
“None of this would be possible without the help of my sponsor, McFoo Racing, or the constant support of my wife who attends all the events with me and understands the diesel passion,” Greg stated. We look forward to seeing this Duramax make a name for itself in the drag circuit, and encourage you to check out EFI Live online for the latest and greatest in tuning software.
