If you’re of the boat-loving disposition, then you know it takes a big truck to haul around your vessel. We were out at the recent Desert Storm and Poker Run and saw no shortage of either, as everyone was gearing up to go have a blast on the waters of Lake Havasu in Arizona.
One of those people was Justin Corrales, who was out showcasing the Dave’s Custom Boats (DCB) brand during the street party known as Desert Storm. Lined up among dozens of other diesels and watercraft, there was one white F-250 that could not be ignored, especially since behind it was a bright green, orange, and black speedboat sitting on a trailer. We caught up with Corrales to get his thoughts on the vehicle, the boat, and the event as a whole.
Could you tell us what DCB is all about?
Justin Corrales: Sure. DCB makes quite a few different boats, and is based out of Canada and came down this way for the event. They make some killer M31s, some new M35s, you’ll see a couple of M41s out here. Ours has the twin Mercury 750 engines, and a couple of our buddies have the 1350s so it’s getting pretty crazy.
How many DSPR events have you been to now?
JC: I want to say this is our third DSPR, and our second time doing the Desert Storm. We’ve just recently been getting involved with this crowd, and we love it. The people out here are great, and we all have just a great time.
What can you tell us about the boat?
JC: This M31 is the first one out of the mold. It’s the first M31 widebody that was made by DCB, and it’s a 2010 model year. It’s also the first to receive the green Mercury engines. It’s kind of interesting, and unbelievably agile. It’s the first boat we’ve ever owned. I’d say it makes 1650 horsepower now, and we’re hoping to get it up to 1700 or 1750 horsepower with some tweaking in the near future. It runs like a dream.
Great stuff. Now what’s the story on the F-250?
JC: We recently got the truck last month, it’s the 6.7-liter Power Stroke, 2011 model year. We swooped it up and got a great price on it, and I want to say it has had its catalytic converters removed and put a tuner in it, too. It definitely has some get-up-and-go. There’s also a six-inch lift kit installed on it, as well as Fox shocks. All the installs were thanks to United Motorsports out of Yucaipa, California. They do a lot of work for us since we own a couple of car dealerships out there. We had it running on 22-inch wheels for a while, but we went back to 20-inch wheels and we have a phenomenal ride now. The tires are 37-inch Nitto Trail Grapplers.
So we take it you’re digging the Ford?
JC: Absolutely. I think they’re the best bang for the buck, personally. I like them a lot. Some guys like Cummins or Duramax, it all depends, but Power Strokes work out for us.
We didn’t get to see Corrales and his M31 take to the open water for the Poker Run, but we think it’s safe to say he and his friends had a blast. Tune in here on Diesel Army for more coverage of the 2016 Desert Storm and Poker Run, coming soon.
