It’s the same old song and dance. When something awesome is out there, it gets shared on social media. Well, it happened again. Mike Miller of Gray’s Diesel has been putting together a truck that hoped to wow the crowd and it surely has done it for me. This restored ’97 F-350, while it may just look like a prettied-up old OBS Ford truck, is more than that. Once you take a deeper look, you’ll see this truck is show and go.
So what do you do with an “old” truck like this? You’ve been working on it for a while, and taken the time to repaint the truck, refurbish a lot of the parts, and now it’s ready to do what? Did you build it for car shows? If you’re Mike Miller you build it to be an all-steel, street-legal OBS Ford with an itinerary to follow the Outlaw Diesel Super Series in the Outlaw 5.90 Index. “I work for Gray’s Diesel as the online sales representative,” Miller explained. “I work in Bridgewater, Massachusetts, remotely and we want to prove our products. This truck definitely does that”
“At Gray’s, we want to show everyone that our engines make big power. With this truck, we are shooting for over 1,000 horsepower on just fuel, and once we bring the nitrous in, we’ll be near the 1,600-horsepower mark.” Miller said that he wanted to make big power and anything north of 1,000 horsepower is certainly big power.
With a set of wheels and tires that mean business on a dragstrip, what else does it have to complete such a challenging goal? This OBS Ford truck features a fully-built Gray’s Diesel 7.3-liter Power Stroke engine backed by a bulletproof 4R100 transmission built by Chris Garrett at A-1 Transmission. The 7.3 engine features a custom T6 valley turbocharger by Ultra Diesel Performance compounded with a T6 5-Blade 85mm turbo from Stainless Diesel.
Even if you aren’t a Ford guy, you have to admit this truck is one pretty slick truck. Not only does it look sweet, but you have to admire the fact that these guys eat, sleep, and drink the power of the older 7.3-liter engine. We’ve seen some friendly banter online where Power Stroke enthusiasts have suggested using a 6.0, 6.4, or even a 6.7-liter engine for this OBS Ford, but Miller refuses.
We looking forward to seeing this truck out and about at upcoming Outlaw Diesel Super Series events. The widely popular 5.90 Index class is already filling up and it looks like we can go ahead and add another one to the mix. What are your thoughts on this? Do you admire their love for this powerplant? What would you have used? For more truck features and event coverage like this, stay tuned to Diesel Army.
