If you’re inside of the diesel space even a little, you’ve probably heard about the CP4 failure on the newer 2019 and 2020 Ram trucks with the 6.7-liter Cummins engine. These Bosch CP4 pumps potentially could fail prematurely. Interior components can fail resulting in debris going throughout the fuel system and causing fuel starvation.
Easy fix, right? Well, yeah, but the issue isn’t fixing it. It’s having the parts readily available. Stellantis is recalling approximately 220,400 trucks that could face this issue and is issuing reimbursements for those who have already had to make this repair themselves. It has been said that there is a shortage of parts, therefore, you may have to wait.
How do you know if yours is on its way out? Truck owners may notice a “Malfunction Indicator Lamp” illuminating, a fuel leak, abnormal noise, or a change in drive quality. You may experience a loss of power, which could cause an accident without warning.
