Over the past few weeks, we’ve been doling out Spotted In The Shop articles to keep you, our readers, apprised of recent diesel-related products going toward builds. The Pusher Intakes compound turbo build has been our most ambitious one yet, and ARP Bolts has given us the key to lasting performance in the form of an engine head stud kit.
This specific kit we have here today is the 625+ version (PNÂ 247-4204), and it represents a beefy upgrade to the amount of abuse the head can take. This will be vital once we have the compound turbo system installed and pushing a great deal more air into the block. It will keep the motor from losing its head, if you’ll pardon the pun.
Our hope with these ARP head studs is that they'll hold up to the extremes of a compound turbo system. With their 280,000 psi tensile strength, though, we don't think that should be a problem.
The key aspect of the ARP 625+ kit is its tensile strength, which relates to how much stress the metal can take before it gives up and disintegrates. The material used in these bolts puts that number at an astounding 260,000 psi.
“Our Custom Age 625 Plus has high-strength 260-280 psi tensile strength,” said ARP’s Chris Raschke. “It has a very high fatigue cycle life and toughness, and is highly resistant to atmospheric corrosion and oxidation.”
With that kind of durability, we imagine the Cummins motor will stay in one awesome, performance-built piece for a long time to come. To see more, head over to the ARP website, and give the company a Like on its Facebook page, too.
