Water can be a nightmare to deal with, whether it is dealing with a leak in the seal or creating mud while off-roading. If there is one particular place that you definitely do not want to have water it is in your diesel fuel.

The folks over at BD Diesel have come up with a simple yet effective way for 2008 to 2010 Ford 6.4-liter Power Stroke (PN 1050356) owners to find out faster. Their new water in fuel (WIF) sensor can let owners find out 10 minutes faster then the factory sensor.

In the 10 minutes the engine may consume up to three gallons or 12 liters of water contaminated fuel. This can lead to high pressure fuel pump (HPFP) failure and even Piezo injector failure.

HPFP failure is known to damage the pump drive gears beyond repair, requiring the whole motor to be replaced. The video shows how simple it is to install BD Diesel’s sensor to stop all of this from happening.

With a basic set of tools the WIF sensor can be installed in no time. The kit includes everything that is needed to install. It connects to the OEM sensor on the horizontal fuel conditioning module (HFCM) and enough wire to install the module under the dash.

A quarter-inch hole needs to be drilled to install the red warning light. The red light will come one like all the other display indicators and shut off within three seconds. If it stays on there is water in the fuel.
