Diesel is more than a type of fuel. It’s a way of life. And here to celebrate that is Granger Smith, or rather his alter ego, Earl Dibbles Jr. The singer released this incredible music video last month on YouTube, and it’s still making us hit the “Play” button over and over again.
The freedom, the power, the black smoke, and the epic torque – all are on display as Granger reminds us of why diesel is the best of all time, and nothing else will do. “Yeah, we love smoking that diesel, it screams out freedom like a big bald eagle,” goes the chorus.
We reached out to Granger to hear more about this inspiration behind the song, his favorite moments from the shoot, and what his take is on Ford vs. Chevy vs. Ram. Regarding the inspiration behind the song, Granger said, “Diesel trucks are a symbol of America. It’s easy for Earl Dibbles Jr. to get behind something like that. It’s very on brand.”
The shoot took place in Indiana and partnered with another YouTuber, Whistlin Diesel. “We had a blast out there,” said Granger. “It was really cold and that added to the feel of the video. There was lots of mud flying, and tons of diesel burning. It was a good day!”
The video featured some excellent rigs having a blast in the dirt. All the makes are represented. Granger himself doesn’t have a favorite, but he does dig his current setup. “I’ve driven my share of each of them and have loved each in their own way,” he said. “I currently drive a Power Stroke 6.7-liter. The constant power and the way that truck is geared makes for the best engine I’ve ever driven in a pickup.”
“Diesel” is not just another country song. It’s an anthem to the black-smoke-spewing trucks we know and love. Once you’re done rocking out to Diesel, go check out more songs from Granger on his YouTube channel.
