There was a time when we thought of lawnmowers as nothing more than an appliance, a tool to take care of a job, pure and simple. Golf courses, resorts, high schools, and all the other establishments sport fleets of these things, and they all make a paltry amount of power to do menial yet necessary tasks.

But the thing we couldn’t account for was the sheer ingenuity and awesomeness that our fellow diesel enthusiasts bring to the table. Case in point is Simmons Diesel Performance, out of Barnesville, Georgia, and their epic little John Deere that got a coal-rollin’ powerplant not too long ago.

A handful of posts from the shop’s Instagram page show us that this tractor is not a joke anymore. Powered by a three-cylinder Yanmar diesel motor, the vehicle is definitely quicker than it used to be. Csweatmon92, the manager of the Instagram page, jokes in a post that “Even the lawn mower is boosted. @simmons_diesel is cutting grass quick this summer.”

You read that right, the John Deere is indeed boosted thanks to a dinky little red BorgWarner unit. No hard and fast specs are available, but judging by the other posts, the tractor makes more than its fair share of torque.

A couple of videos show the tractor simply dominating a Mazda B2000 (aka Ford Ranger, just badge-engineered). One video depicts the tractor pulling the parked mini-truck in a 180-degree sweeping motion, while the other has the tractor out-pull the pickup in a tug-of-war.

What do you think of this badass little tractor? Let us know in the comments below.
