When diesel trucks show up to a drag event, all the gassers might as well pack it in and go home. The Force is on the side of diesel, as we all know, and recently at an event in Arizona, this Cummins driver proved it.
Commanding over 1,500 horsepower and 2,300 pound-feet of torque, the truck had the goods to sweep the floor with its competition that night. An Escalade with an LS? Step aside, fool. A Silverado with an LS? See above, jamoke. A turbocharged Sierra? Don’t even try, dude.
1320video was on hand to meet the owner and get a little bit of an explainer behind the madcap Cummins. “It’s got fully-built everything,” said the owner. “I put in the biggest and the best you could put it in, a bunch of time and effort.” He goes on to confirm that he’s running on compound turbochargers, with a 72mm feeding a 91mm behind it. He hadn’t logged the amount of boost he was running, but estimated it to be more than 90 psi.
Over the course of the night, we get to see some stupendous finishes by this Dodge Ram. Versus the Silverado, it ran a 9.94 seconds at 107 mph; versus the Escalade, it did 12.62 seconds at 84 mph, taking it a little slower; and finally, versus the Sierra, it did the run in 9.40 seconds at 146 mph.
“My hands are shaking,” confesses the owner as he gets his final pass read off to him. “The adrenaline’s still going.” Given what his truck just did, we certainly can’t blame him. What did you think of this killer Cummins? Let us know in the comments below.
