The Tire Lineup

Grabber APT, Grabber A/TX, and the Grabber X3 tires.

There are a few questions that need to be asked when it comes to General’s “Grabber” all-terrain and mud-terrain tires. What are their key features? What is the optimum terrain for these tires? In what situation would these tires make the most sense?  What are the sizes are available in these?

Check out our breakdown of the questions for each tire offering below.

General Grabber APT

The APT tire is the perfect all-purpose tire for the everyday driver. Standing with a strong, durable stance, the APT provides capabilities to go on and off-road, it operates in all weather conditions, it offers a quiet, comfortable ride on the street, and is expected to be a 60,000-mile tire. The standout features of the APT are the DuraGen Technology, Comfort Balance Technology, StabiliTread Technology, and the Three Peak Mountain Snowflake certification.

The DuraGen Tech is the result of this tires’ off-road capabilities and the Comfort Balance Tech makes for quiet street driving. Its tech’s design is based around an absorption layer under the tread that isolates vehicles from road disturbances, which is how you get that comfier ride. The StabiliTread Tech is what balances the on and off-road completely as a whole. The flatter, larger footprint on the road surface makes for less tread stress, resulting in longer life, therefore this tire is rated for 60,000 miles.

General says the APT is a “strong and durable all-purpose-terrain tire, providing competent all-terrain off-road capability, balanced with excellent on-road performance.” The APT tire has visual appeal, it aggressively enhances the appearance of your truck or SUV, and its handling traits are impressive.

The bottom line: The APT does a fine job on gravel roads and it also delivers excellent daily commuting qualities and strong overall on-road performance. Unsure if the sizing is available for your ride? Not to worry. These tires fit 16-inch to 22-inch wheels in sizes ranging from 215/70R16 all the way to 285/45R22.

General Grabber A/TX

The A/TX is an all-terrain tire that will provide exceptional off-road capabilities while obtaining high durability and on-road performance that most of us need.

Its aggressive tread pattern is what allows this tire to handle the roughest of terrain. Add to that the large sidewall lugs with the “Stabilitread” technology, and these tires are guarded against off-roading damage like chips and cuts. Backed with a Three-Peak Mountain Snowflake certification, the A/TX gives you the confidence you need in all weather conditions. This model is also suitable for drivers who need the extra grip on the ice too.

General’s AT/X is hailed as “the next-generation, aggressive all-terrain tire that provides exceptional off-road capability and durability.” The AT/X’s traction notches are for additional grip in dirt, snow, and all loose surfaces. The five-row tread pattern for high-density multi-angle traction edges provides off-road grip in every direction.

When it comes to ply rating, the A/TX is offered is 4, 8, and 10-ply equivalents. The A/TX fits a 14-inch wheel all the way to a 20-inch wheel. If you’re looking for a tire in between 27 and 37 inches, the A/TX has you covered. What’s more, it’s rated between 50,000 and 60,000 miles. The A/TX is perfect for the driver that likes to get off the path frequently.

General Grabber X3

The X3 earned its name because of its extreme performance in dirt, mud, and on rocks. With over three years in development and more than two million miles of testing, General went to the extreme to develop this radical tire.

The X3 tire is a mud-terrain tire designed to take you and your rig through the most extreme off-road scenario, while still offering quality on-road performance. Whether you’re in the mud, dirt, rocky terrain, or on the street, this tire is ready for action.

The X3 offers a few key features that are important to point out. The DuraGen technology gives the X3 the durability it needs to prevent cuts and chips on rocks, but it also contains the flexibility the tires need in cold temperatures. Speaking of rocks, the X3 is designed with stone bumpers in the tread layout.

General calls the X3 “a bold and aggressive mud-terrain that delivers extreme off-road performance in mud, dirt, and rocky terrain.” Available in sizing from 31 to 37 inches, the X3 has a lot of different styles of builds covered. With support for 15 to 20-inch wheels and the iconic black wall/solid red letters, this X3 is perfect for hardcore off-roading.

We hope that this has taught you more about what the General Tire Grabber product line has to offer. And if you’re in the market for a new set for the project don’t forget to head over to TireBuyer to pick up yours today. Don’t forget there’s an opportunity to save big with ending on October 31st!
