Welcome back to Wrecked Truck Friday – WTF – as we continue to check out the recently deceased rigs out there in need of a rescue. This week, we’re checking out a 2002 Ford Excursion in Salt Lake City, Utah.
If you ask us, Excursions get a bad rap. Back when they were rolled out in 2000, the time was right for Ford to roll out plus-sized SUVs. The Suburban and Yukon XL were dominant in the market, gas was cheap, and American families had lost their love for minivans.
The way the sun shines on the body makes us think there's a spray-on liner all over the Excursion. What do you think?
As time wore on, however, the Excursion became the poster car for American excess – too much fuel consumption, too much space, too much vehicle. Their numbers are dropping, both in surviving examples and price, so maybe it’s time to give this particular one a second chance.
The Excursion underwent a pretty nasty accident, by the look of things. We can clearly see an exocage was installed onto the vehicle at some point, and it definitely served its purpose. It broke apart on the rear passenger side, but it likely kept the occupants sage during the rollover.
The body is in bad shape in the rear, and both rear wheels are missing. The driver’s side shows a massive indent on the roof, and naturally, all of the back glass shattered.
Inside, airbags deployed for both the driver and passenger, so they got a nice, fluffy punch in the face during this whole ordeal. The 7.3-liter under the hood has an unknown number of miles on it, and since the rollover, it hasn’t been started.
The airbags went off. We hope the occupants made it out okay.
All in all, the Excursion is not a happy camper. But could you turn that frown upside down? Let us know how you’d fix up this SUV in the comments below.
