Video: Sideways Action In A Caterpillar 789, Gotta Love Mike Ryan!

So, last week we ran a story where Michael Antaya with All Around Equipment, Inc. hauled a Caterpillar 777 across town. It was pretty impressive to see exactly what all it takes to orchestrate a move of that size. Well, Mike Ryan from Mike Ryan Motorsports just topped it.

If you don’t know how big this 789 is, Ryan is 6′.

If you don’t know who Mike Ryan is, he is the crazy guy who races up Pike’s Peak in the Banks Powered Freightliner and he is the guy who took to the air in the Size Matters Series. (If you haven’t seen it, you really need to click this link and watch it. It is very cool and only 5 mins.) Anyways, this time, EMC hired Ryan to drift a 200 ton Caterpillar 789.

For Ryan, this isn’t too much of a stretch; his Banks Powered Freightliner has a little more than 2,000 horsepower with the Super-Turbo setup. This Caterpillar is powered by a 78L V16 that produces 2,000 horsepower. Yeah, perhaps the 789 weights a little more (by over 100 ton) but hey, who’s counting?

Image/s missing.
Where are the EMC servers?

Ryan’s getting sideways is meant to illustrate that size and scale doesn’t limit one’s agility. That is why the video cuts to the close ups of the BMW, Shelby Corvette, the desk, fish tank, and servers. But I don’t know… Did you see the servers anywhere in the video other than the end? Where they concerned about them and not the cars? What is up with that?

Either way, very cool video of Ryan getting a little sideways in something that large. We are sure there was a little surface conditioning to help promote the side, but either way, sideways is sideways!
