Overview: VP Racing’s Hardcore Products For Diesels

VP Racing [2] – you know the name for its famous line of racing fuels, powering some of the highest-performing automobiles in the world, from drag racing to marine to airspace applications. Lately, though, a big push has come in the way of its state-of-the-art additive line, known as Madditives by VP Racing.

A number of these Madditives are suited specifically for diesel trucks, and take care of specific issues known in the market. These Madditives include Cetanium, Cool Down, and All-In-One fuel conditioner. We recently had the chance to talk with Bruce Hendel, and learned more about why these Madditives should be on the shelf of every diesel owner’s garage cabinet. “VP’s three Madditives can improve the efficiency for combustion, lower operating temperatures, increase fuel mileage, and help extend engine life,” said Hendel.

Cetanium: An Adrenaline Shot For Fuel

[3]

Cetanium increases the cetane number of diesel fuel, making it more combustible, and therefore more potent.

Cetanium [4] was developed with the goal of making diesel fuel more potent and combustible. It does this by adding cetane to diesel, which is comparable to octane and its effects on gasoline.

“A cetane number, or CN, is the rating assigned to diesel fuel to rate its combustion quality,” explained Hendel. “Some people refer to ‘cetane’ as shorthand for ‘cetane number.’ Cetane is also the name of a hydrocarbon called hexadecane, which has a CN of 100. When diesel fuel has a CN that is too low, it can cause poor starting, rough running, loss of power, soot, smoke, damage to the motor, and worse fuel mileage.”

Cetanium increases the cetane number of diesel fuel, which translates to smoother running, more power, and better emissions. [5]

To get a little more in-depth, the cetane number will affect diesel’s ability to pre-ignite. Increasing this ability, as Hendel explained, is advantageous to diesel fuel in general. “A higher cetane number means a shorter ignition delay time and more complete combustion of the fuel charge in the combustion chamber,” he said. “This, of course, translates into a smoother-running, better-performing engine with more power and fewer harmful emissions.”

On top of this, Cetanium is good for also cleaning injectors and pumps of sludge and deposits, provides protection when using biodiesel, increases fuel mileage, and restores lost lubrication.

Cool Down: For Times When Your Engine Has “No Chill”

Cooldown [6]

Cool Down enhances the positive attributes of coolant by allowing easier heat transfer, while mitigating negative attributes like crystallization.

We all know what coolant does. Coursing throughout the engine and radiator, it has the job of making sure temperatures stay stable whether the outside world is blazing hot or brutally cold. But VP Racing has a way to make it better and less susceptible to degradation over time: Cool Down [7].

“Over time, inhibitors in coolant become insoluble and form a gel out of the coolant,” said Hendel. “These gels eventually ‘bake’ onto hot metal surfaces inside the cooling system, forming scales and deposits. Even a deposit as small as 1/16-inches can reduce heat transfer by up to 40 percent.”

As you might expect, this leads to overheating. The gels can also become abrasive to seals and impellors of water pumps, acting like “liquid sandpaper,” as Hendel put it. “Boiling in regular coolant happens when it comes in direct contact with extremely hot cylinder heads,” added Hendel. “This causes surface tension that prevents the efficient transfer of heat away from the cylinder heads, and that leads to increased operating temperature, hot spots, and eventually catastrophic failure.”

Where Cool Down steps in is with its polymer dispersants, which keep these coolant inhibitors from forming these deadly gels, scales, or deposits. “It reduces the coolant’s surface tension, allowing for better metal-to-coolant heat transfer that can then be safely freed when it cycles through the radiator,” said Hendel. “The end result is a cooler engine and greater longevity.”

All-In-One: The Diesel Fuel Treatment That Covers It All

All-In-One keeps moisture out of diesel fuel [10]

All-In-One keeps moisture out of diesel fuel that can lead to clogging and corrosion in the fueling system.

They say, “What you don’t know can’t hurt you.” Well, anyone with half a brain calls that notion bunk, and goes with the much better saying of “Knowledge is power.” And wouldn’t you rather know that the diesel fuel inside your tank isn’t going to cause issues down the line?

In this case, All-In-One Diesel Fuel Conditioner [11] is what you’re looking for. The fact of the matter is that diesel fuel from the pump can bring moisture with it, and does no good for the fueling system.

“The main issue with pump diesel fuel is water, regardless of where or when the fuel is purchased,” explained Hendel. “Fuel used is replaced by air drawn in through vents, bringing moisture with it. Temperature fluctuations cause condensation on the inside walls of fuel tanks. This creates an accumulation of water that, over time, causes corrosion and acts as a catalyst for bio-degradation.”

All-In-One (second from right) does as the name describes, freeing up clogs in the fueling system and restoring lubrication.

The degradation leads to solids and sludges that form a coating on the walls and baffles of the fuel tank, which translates to clogging all over the fuel system – filters, injectors, pumps, and so on. Anyone who’s ever stared down the barrel of a fueling system overhaul knows just how costly and time-consuming those jobs can get.

“Our All-In-One has a unique formula that contrasts some of the other diesel fuel treatments on the market that address only one specific problem,” said Hendel. “Some focus only on anti-gel or anti-sludge, or just clean the injectors. VP’s formula addresses those issues and more.”

All-In-One can also disperse water, replace lost lubrication, increase cetane, and reduce smoking. What’s more, it even cuts down on DEF usage, giving users greater fuel mileage. It can also be used safely with Cetanium, according to Hendel.

Fluid Magic
