Although hot rods and muscle cars may captivate many people at car shows, a legion of diesel engine fanatics are out there making insane power numbers on trucks built for work, rather than play. Yet play these big trucks do, and if you want to see some of the most wild diesel builds on the planet, then the National Hot Rod Diesel Association diesel drag racing and sled pulling series is a can’t miss opportunity.
For those of you in the Colorado region, Diesels on the Mountain is happening this weekend promising two action-packed days of diesel performance fun.
Diesels on the Mountain dates back to 2004 and was originally hosted by Clint Cannon and his crew from ATS Diesel Performance. This year’s event will take place in Golden, Colorado, at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds, and will once again offer a wide array of racing classes and showstoppers, no matter what you’re into (as long as it has a diesel engine, that is).
The two biggest draws are the sled-pulling and drag racing events, allowing trucks to showcase both their work and competition performance. The sled pull classes include Super Stock Diesel, Pro Stock Diesel, Limited Pro Stock Diesel, 2.5 Diesel, and Work Stock Diesel & Exhibition, while the drag racing classes feature the NHRDA Top Diesel, Pro Stock, Pro Street, Super Street, Super Diesel, 10.90 Index, Sportsman Hot Rod Semis, Big Rig Bracket Class, and a Test-N-Tune event. There will also be a dyno on site for power measurements, as well as a Show-N-Shine and burnout contest.
Admission is $25 for adults, $10 for kids 6 to 12 years old, and kids 5 and under are free.
