Ram is doubling down on long-term durability, and for diesel buyers, that’s a big deal. After initially announcing a major warranty shift in mid-2025, Ram has now confirmed that it will continue its best-in-segment 10-year/100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty through the entire 2026 model year, covering its full-size truck and van lineups in the U.S. and Canada. For owners who plan to keep their trucks for the long haul—and there are many, according to the data—this move sets Ram apart in a crowded heavy-duty market.

The warranty applies to 2026 model-year Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500 pickups, as well as 3500/4500/5500 Chassis Cab trucks and ProMaster vans. Importantly for diesel enthusiasts, that includes Cummins-powered Heavy Duty models, along with specialty trucks like the Power Wagon and Ram RHO. Coverage spans 10 years or 100,000 miles—whichever comes first—and includes major drivetrain components such as the engine, transmission, transfer case, driveshafts, differentials, and axles.

As we mentioned, this isn’t Ram’s first step in this direction. Back in June 2025, the brand announced it was raising the stakes by offering this 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty, initially planned to expire on January 2, 2026—some fine print that was probably missed by many. The latest press release confirms that Ram listened to dealer and customer feedback and decided to extend the program for the full 2026 model year. The timing matters. Nearly 80 percent of new truck loans now exceed five years, meaning many buyers are still making payments after traditional warranties have expired.
For diesel buyers, the contrast is significant. Previously, Ram offered a 5-year/100,000-mile diesel powertrain warranty and a 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty on gas models. Those terms largely mirrored what Ford, Chevy, and GMC offer today. By extending diesel powertrain coverage to a full decade for original owners, Ram is signaling serious confidence in long-term reliability—especially in high-torque, high-load applications like towing and commercial use.

There is, however, a tradeoff. The 10-year/100,000-mile warranty is non-transferable. Second owners fall back to the standard 5-year diesel or 5-year/60,000-mile gas coverage. For owner-operators, contractors, and diesel enthusiasts who buy new and rack up miles over years of hard use, the value is clear.
Leases and retail purchases qualify, though fleet sales do not. Combined with Ram’s continued investment in heavy-duty capability—highlighted by Cummins torque leadership and a strong chassis cab lineup under Stellantis—this warranty extension reinforces Ram’s strategy: compete not just on specs, but on long-term ownership confidence. For diesel buyers planning to keep their trucks well past the payoff date, that confidence could be the deciding factor. And as we all know, these trucks ain’t getting any cheaper to repair.
