Bang For Your Buck: XP Series CP3 Pumps From Industrial Injection

Like all performance-enhancing products, we are looking for the most quality parts available, and the CP3 injection pump is no different. In our search for the CP3 with the highest fuel output on the market, we found the XP Series pumps from Industrial Injection. The XP Series pumps are available for 2001-10 Duramax, and 2003-17 Cummins trucks.

For those of you who don’t know or aren’t familiar with the term CP3, a CP3 is the heart of the fuel injection on a common-rail fuel system. Unlike pre-common-rail systems, the CP3 has fewer tasks to perform. The CP3’s sole purpose is to create and regulate high-pressure fuel for your engine. CP3s are superior pumps versus, for example, VP44 injection pumps.

Keep in mind, for those of you who aren’t familiar, thoroughly go through instructions before installation on a CP3. Although the XP pumps have a warranty, that doesn’t warrant incorrect installation.

Industrial Injection strives to offer high-quality injection pumps on the market. Their newest pumps are labeled as the XP Series. What makes these pumps unique are the oversized plungers in combination with DLC coating and higher lift crankshafts.

As you can see, Industrial measures out their internals before installation.

The new plungers and tappets are all hardened and DLC coated to ensure reliability, longevity, and reduce sticking. The standard plungers in an OEM Bosch CP3 are 7.5mm. Industrial Injection’s XP plungers are offered in 8.0 to 8.5mm versions. Also, the XPs will be offered with a 12mm shaft size. Industrial Injection tests all of their pumps, not only on state-of-the-art testing equipment but also on high-level competition vehicles.

Shown to the left, is an XP pump tore apart making the oversize internal parts exposed.

The engineering idea behind the XP Series CP3 is to produce more fuel output with fewer pumps. As most of you know, more than one company, including Industrial Injection, offers a dual CP3 kit. This allows the truck owner to have two separate pumps providing more fuel to the rail and injectors. However, with the XP, that isn’t necessary.
