2018 Scheid Diesel Extravaganza: Day 1 Coverage From Terre Haute

Finally, the wait is over. The biggest diesel show in the country, the Scheid Diesel Extravaganza, has arrived. Today was the beginning of this huge three-day event and we are underway. Some newcomers from all around the country are coming into town to get a taste of Scheid for the first time, but will they have enough to stack up with the competition that usually dominates this weekend?

This weekend will be full of action including the dyno competition, sled pulling, drag racing, and also a huge truck show and shine competition.

As expected, once the gates open bright and early, competitors and spectators flowed in by the hundreds. The diesel scene had arrived in Terre Haute and the local officials distributed them into parking areas or showing areas. The show and shine area began filling up as did the line for the dyno competition signups. If you didn’t make it to the show and shine area, that’s okay. Just strolling through parking areas were a truck show as well.

Does your truck have enough power to win the prize? Prizes for top horsepower for Dodge, GM, and Ford will be awarded. For only $80, you can find out what all of your hard earned work has funded.

Scheid Diesel has invited Diesel Doctor Dyno to set up their dyno for the dyno competition. People were lined up for a while to get their turn on the rollers. With a chance to win the grand prize, you would be surprised at some of the things that people will do to make more power.

McCoy Black with MB Diesel-powered Ram had some mid-season changes including this badass fiberglass front clip.

In the drag racing portion, once the rain passed, the Crossroads Dragway was open for Friday night test and tune for anyone looking to test new parts or just for the sake of good practice. Trailers continued to roll in through the night as they prepare for a full weekend of Outlaw Diesel Super Series drag racing tomorrow.

Throughout the day sled pulling qualifying was supposed to be taking place. But, unfortunately, this lunchtime fun was put on hold. The rain held the competition off till the night meaning there was no getting the ladder set up for this evenings. It was everyone gets one pull and the winner takes home the prize. The Lucas Oil Pro Pulling League brought in hundreds of Hot Rod Truck and Tractors of all shapes and sizes to aim for that top spot.

Huge names in the pulling industry were onsite putting these hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of trucks to the test.

Across the laneway, later in the evening, the Lucas Oil Pro Pulling League was off to the races finally with trucks lined up for what seemed like miles at their turn to hook to that 50,000-pound sled. Since the drag racing isn’t until tomorrow, the monstrous crowd is packed in over at the grandstands watching the dirt fly. There were all kinds of builds pulling on Day 1 trying for their chance to make it on television.

Were you out here today at the Scheid Diesel Extravaganza? Let us know what your favorite part from Day 1 is in the comments. Stay tuned for tomorrows action is its coming in hot in only a few hours!
