In a recent post on Instagram, we couldn’t help but catch our friends over at Alliant Power posting something unique. It’s not very often when you’re scanning through Instagram on our page and see a motorcycle. But, this isn’t any ordinary motorcycle, this is a diesel-powered machine. That’s right, the power of a diesel engine right between your legs.
The “Hayes M1030” or otherwise known as a Kawasaki M1030, was adopted by the United States military and has served in various branches including the United States Marine Corps, United States Air Force, and Special Forces Groups. For those of you who ride, this bike is a militarized version of the KLR 650 motorcycle.

After further review, it seems as if these bikes are nearly impossible to find for sale and if you do find them for sale, you better get your wallet out because these bike owners know how much people like us want them.
There were a few different engines and transmission configurations with this bike, but we’re only here for the best of them all. Prior to the diesel engine, the M1030 encountered two different engines and transmissions including a 23-horsepower 250cc gasoline engine with a six-speed transmission and a 48-horsepower 651cc gasoline engine.
The diesel engine, the M1030M1, is a 30-horsepower 611cc engine mated with a five-speed transmission. This bike has a 96 mile per gallon rating with a 4.2-gallon fuel tank and can run off of can run on seven different fuels including diesel, biodiesel, JP8 aviation kerosene, and other military fuel variants.
