As you know BD Diesel Performance is one of the industry’s leading aftermarket parts manufacturer. They make parts for virtually anything. Engine parts, transmission parts, suspension parts, and even fuel systems for virtually everything. This year at the PRI show in Indianapolis, Indiana, BD had some rad parts on display and we had to swing by to get the scoop.
As we approached the booth, we saw BD Diesel’s Sales and Business Development Manager, Chris Oborne. We wanted to talk with Oborne to get his outlook on this year for BD Diesel and what they are excited about moving forward. “We here at BD have options for everyone and their brother,” said Oborne. “If you’re wanting to upgrade your diesel for the mileage, we can help you. If you’re wanting to drag race or sled pull your truck, we can do that too.”
So, what did we see while we were there? For starters, one of the big pushes ending this 2018 year is the 48RE tap shifter, the Cobra and Iron Horn Series turbochargers, and their pulse exhaust manifolds. The tap shifter gives you 100-percent control over your 48RE transmission, the Cobra Series turbochargers can push your truck to serious horsepower, and in combination with the pulse exhaust manifolds, your truck is ready to perform at the highest level.
Tap Shifter
The Tap Shifter for your 48RE transmission typically fits your 2003-2007 Dodge Ram trucks. Grab your transmission by the horns if you will and hold the power to electronically control gear selection, torque converter lockup, and full manual gear mode. These tap shifters come pre-loaded and ready to rip and require no custom programming.
With your tap shifter purchase, you will also receive at BD Diesel high-performance valve body that will work alongside this tap shifter unit for flawless shifting. The tap shifter works with the stock steering wheel and comes with a new gear selector and will work perfect for any application including street, towing, and even drag racing. If you’re in the market to have full transmission control, say no more.
CobraCompound Turbocharger / Iron Horn Kits
Now, we’ve got the transmission set up with the new tap shifter, now we need something to push this truck from gear to gear. The Iron Horn turbo kits are the newest and hottest things on the market right now. “At a super economical price, the Iron Horn kits are perfect,” said Oborne. “For only $1,600, you’re getting a turbo kit and the exhaust manifold. The big thing here is the fact that you’re getting an exhaust manifold with a turbo for only $1,600.”
Each Iron Horn kit comes in different sizes and configurations that will work with what you need and each of these kits will bolt directly up to the factory engine and exhaust. It’s literally cheaper for you to upgrade your failed stock VGT turbo than it is to replace it with OEM. With OEM, you’re looking at a price around the $2,500 mark.
As for the racing or pulling side of things, the Cobra Kits for the 2013-2018 Cummins trucks are out too. “We have always had compatibility with the previous year Dodge trucks, but now we’re able to repower the 13-18’s,” said Oborne. “Anything from 800, 1,000, 1,100, and 1,200-horsepower, we have a Cobra compound turbo kit that will work for you.”
We want to thank Chris for taking the time to tell us about these new products that they had on display and we can’t wait to put all of these parts to the test. So, stay tuned to Diesel Army as we may be putting one of these Cobra Compound kits on and pushing it to the max.
