In 2016, the Nissan Titan XD was going to be the pride and joy of loyal Nissan truck owners wanting more. They were going to be a big powerhouse truck with the 5.0-liter V8 Cummins turbo diesel engine, but unfortunately, things haven’t gone that way. As of December 2019, the Nissan Titan Cummins will be no more.
Although the V8 platformed Cummins engine output 555 lb-ft of torque, those numbers weren’t enough to clear the lots. To be frank, the gasoline 5.6-liter V8 option was too similar in performance and sold at a much cheaper price. It has been said that Nissan sold 52,924 Titans in 2017, 50,459 in 2018, and 20,268 through July of 2019.
Although these aren’t diesel-equipped Titan’s specifically, you really don’t see many of them out there, you know? The additional cost to upgrade to a diesel engine made it tough for truck buyers and it has shown. I don’t think it’s because the Titan buyers aren’t diesel fans, I think it is because there just aren’t that many Titan buyers.
After talking with a few owners at events, their comments haven’t made the purchase of one very intriguing. With Chevrolet, GMC, Ford, and RAM bringing their A-game when it comes to the diesel half-ton trucks, Nissan really has their work cut out for them to compete. What do you think about these Titan XD’s? Do you think they should keep them around? Let us know in the comments below. Stay tuned to Diesel Army for the latest in diesel.
