When Alex Resnick purchased his Ram 2500 Laramie in March of 2017, he knew right away what he wanted to build a truck that would stand out in a sea of diesel haulers. He came in contact with the Truck Guru, and the transformation into the original Colossus began. After the build was complete, Alex and Colossus were headed to the 2017 SEMA Show as a feature vehicle for Gen-Y Hitches.
After the 2017 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, Alex decided he wanted to display his build at some of the major truck events throughout the country. He hit up all popular shows such as Lone Star Throwdown, Turkey Drags, Daytona Truck Meet, Scrapin’ the Coast, and many more.
His build gained interest within the community, and Alex made numerous connections along the way. “In early 2019, I decided I wanted to give my truck a fresh new look,” Alex explained. The remake began with plans to make the 2019 show with Rolling Big Power (RBP).
Suspension/Exterior/Wheels And Tires
Let’s first start with the suspension, arguably one of the most noticeable aspects of the build. Alex went with a custom-built 22-inch lift from Plan B with a set of custom F-O-A triple-bypass shocks.
RBP 28×16 forged Zions wrapped in 42×15.50 Comforters tires fill the wheel wells of the Dodge Ram perfectly.
He put the final touches on the Ram 2500 suspension and chassis by powder coating the underneath with Prismatic Powders “Peeka Blue.” Some more additions include front and rear Fusion bumpers with RBP pods, also outfitted with monster hooks/shackles and Infinity rule locks.
Other goodies include two sets of Katrina 540 Hornblaster train horns with a wicked custom train horn mount, powered by dual compressors and an 8-gallon tank. Rounding out the eye candy includes a Retrax bed cover and GEN-Y hitch with a step.
Many say the right combination of wheels and tires can make or break a build. We think Alex hit it out of the park when he went with a set of 28X16 RBP forged Zions wheels wrapped in 42x15x50R28 comforter tires and black True Spike lug nuts. Extra stopping power is provided by Power Stop rotors and brake pads.
Ram 2500 Accessorized
What we love about Alex’s build is that power and performance were just as important as the other parts of the build. Alex went to BD Diesel and got the works done to his Ram 2500 Cummins.
He added a 76mm turbo kit with ARP head studs for added strength. He also upgraded to a BD diesel second-generation manifold, aftermarket intake horn, and a common rail plug. Some more upgrades include a 5-inch Jamo exhaust system with a TSO 5- to 8-inch tip.
We absolutely love this interior! Alex brought the blue theme from the outside and incorporated it throughout the interior cabin. Nothing was left untouched!
For proper operation after the new upgrades, the big Dodge required a new tune on the engine and transmission. Alex went with an EZ Lynk tuner with customs tunes by PPEI. With the upgrades in performance, Alex had to ditch the factory fuel system. He replaced the factory tank with a high-flowing 50-gallon fuel tank from Transferflow.
Although the factory Laramie interior is very nice, it wasn’t up to snuff for Alex. He fully customized the interior of his Dodge with, a new center console-mounted Locker Down safe, blue interior lighting, blue Roadwire leather and suede seats, and a custom suede headliner with a “Ram” embroidered logo, complete with blue illustrations.
Got tunes? Colossus not only has them inside but also on the outside. Thanks to Wetsounds, these speakers and components are completely weatherproof. Alex is able to enjoy his tunes both driving and those nice summer days and nights at the lake!
Alex didn’t stop there, he also upgraded the stereo system. Some of the new additions include Lazer Audio door tweeters and speakers and four Skar Audio VVxV3 10-inch subwoofers mounted in a custom subwoofer box. Powering the new door speakers is a Skar audio 900-watt amplifier and a Laser 3500 is a custom-mounted amplifier, powering the subs. Finally, he added Amber smoked OLED cabin lights, furnished by RECON.
Colossus was equipped with a fully customized exterior sound system, supplied by Wet Sounds. The setup includes Wetsounds rev3 10-inch subwoofers, and two rev8s complemented by RGB LED lights. He also installed a Wetsounds sound bar within the custom-built RBP front grille! Powering the exterior sound system is a Wetsounds 900-watt amplifier. With the massive additions in the sound department, Alex upgraded the battery storage with two XS deep-cycle batteries.
No build is complete without additions and upgrades in the lighting. If you think Alex skimped out here, guess again! He added thirty Offroad LED Bars, rock lights throughout the undercarriage of his Ram 2500, you can’t miss Colossus coming! Rounding out the lighting department was adding planANsimple headlights and smoked taillights.
What Does The Future Hold?
We love what Alex has done to his 2017 Dodge Ram 2500 Laramie. It’s a complete build, top to bottom, and inside and out. We asked Alex what his future plans were, and if there were any projects in the works.
“For 2020, I am going to hit up the truck show circuit with Colossus while I contemplate my next build. Who knows, I may put Colossus up for sale and see what kind of interest it gains. However, I am still considering another lifted build using the new body style, but I also have my sights set on building a first-generation Cummins!” We look forward to seeing his next creation, we know whatever he builds, it will be a show-stopper!
