When I hear Hummer, I think a big, heavy machine that just drips the sound of a diesel engine. Today, GM released what they are calling the leader of the “Quiet Revolution”; The first all-electric GMC Hummer EV is set to be revealed on May 20th, 2020.
The all-electric Hummer EV will “lead a quiet revolution’ per GMC and they’re pushing the features of zero emissions and zero limitations. Their release says it will be capable of up to 1,000-horsepower, 11,500-ft/lb of torque, and a 0-60 time in three seconds.
Let’s think big picture here. What does this mean for GMC vehicles? Are we going to have to look in dealership lots and choose between a few different engines or electric now? What does this mean for military vehicles? Could we see a transition of electricity taking over in an already dominated diesel market? For me, the perks of electricity sound good but I’m just not sold on pulling a loaded trailer across the country with it.
It’s already been said that the military has been testing with electric vehicles at the beginning of 2019. Honestly, who knows what will happen. It seems like electricity is getting more and more popular in the automotive industry, but I’ll still always want the traditional diesel-powered Hummer. What do you think? Are you glad things are headed in this direction? Do you prefer the old school diesel powerplant? Let us know in the comments below.
